🪱🫏🔬Lungworm? Not a common parasite you hear of but it can affect some donkeys and horses.

Parasites such as Lungworm cannot be detected in your average faecal worm egg count and require a sedimentation test to separate the heavy larvae from the larger dung sample provided. It is recommended to test the donkeys thought to be carrying the infection as Lungworm rarely reach egg laying potential in the horse.

🕵️ 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀! It's easily done, especially when you're in a hurry, although we're seeing more samples arriving without the voucher or submission slip inside. We know the sample belongs to someone... we just don't know who!

Please pop your voucher or submission slip into the envelope with your sample before posting it. That little piece of paper does a big job! It tells us:

🐴 Which horse or animal the sample belongs to
⏰ When the sample was taken
👤 Who sent it and where to send the results
✅ That the test has been purchased

Without it, our team has to do a bit of detective work before testing can begin, which can delay your results. A few seconds at home to complete the check list on the back of the return envelope helps us get your results back to you as quickly as possible. Thank you! 😊

🌾☀️ Dry, burnt off grazing doesn't just make it harder for horses to find enough forage, it can also increase their exposure to parasites. Warm weather helps parasites develop on your pasture and when grass becomes sparse, horses graze closer to the ground and nearer to dung piles where infective larvae can be waiting.

🔬 That's why parasite control shouldn't stop just because it's summer. If your horse was last tested in April or before, now is a great time to check what's really happening.

🐴⚠️ Know your horse’s weight before treating with a wormer. Don’t rely on estimating by eye, studies show this can be out by up to 30%!

✅ Use a weighbridge whenever possible
✅ If using a weight tape, add 10% to the estimate to help ensure the correct dose
