A textbook travel mission out to Duddingston Loch for the Transitions Programme group last week while the sun was still out. Planning the connections, reading live boards, and navigating through town with zero fuss.

Every journey builds the practical confidence to tackle the next one independently.

We're absolutely delighted to announce that Edge Group Scotland has joined forces with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) at Edinburgh Zoo!

Bringing together specialist social care and world-leading wildlife conservation expertise, this exciting partnership will create incredible opportunities for the young adults we support.

Our Community Programme is the first to benefit, with opportunities to gain valuable experience in a real working environment, develop transferable skills and build a deeper understanding of wildlife and conservation.

𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙧 𝘽𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 🍞

It’s Bread Week in the Edge kitchen, and the groups took on their own technical challenges, proving they’re rising to the occasion with every loaf.

Sessions like this go far beyond standard baking. Mastering a recipe means practicing accurate measuring, following multi-step instructions, managing time, and planning ahead. They’re the exact practical skills that build real confidence and independence when preparing meals at home.

We think these bakes would definitely be getting a Paul Hollywood handshake. 🤝

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 h̶i̶l̶l̶ 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆! 🌉

Our group navigated from Edge to North Queensferry, putting a whole range of independent travel skills into action along the way.

From checking timetables and buying tickets to learning new routes and timing connections, every step of the journey was planned and managed by the group. It’s all about building real confidence, adaptability, and real-world problem-solving.

The Academy Programme group worked on turning, building control, balance, and quick decision-making. It takes real resilience to push through and master a new skill, especially when it’s as “fresh” as it is today!

Bring on the rest of the ski season!

If you’re a Social Worker, Learning Disability professional, Occupational Therapist, NHS professional, SDS/DWP adviser or parent/carer supporting a young adult who may benefit from building greater independence, confidence, employability and real-world life skills, now is the time to refer.

Alongside practical, real-world learning, Life Programme participants also work towards recognised accredited outcomes through Qualifications Scotland, with achievement embedded into everyday Programme activities.

𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: 27 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 2026

Places are limited and referrals need time to progress through our assessment process, with local authority funding also needing to be in place for the young adult, so we strongly encourage referrals to be submitted as soon as possible.

Last week, while out and about in Musselburgh, the Life Programme group stopped by the aviary at Lewisvale Park to say hello to some of its feathered residents.

You know how much we love our animals at Edge, so an unexpected opportunity to meet a few more is always welcome!

A little autumn comfort to start the week! 🍎🍏

Nothing says autumn quite like a homemade apple crumble!

Last week, our programme groups made the most of seasonal ingredients to create this classic, budget-friendly pudding.

From preparing fruit and measuring ingredients to following recipes, managing timings and using kitchen equipment safely, there's plenty of practical learning packed into this delicious crumble!
