🌿 A little reflection as October comes to an end

This month I’ve been sharing some thoughts from my blog, I’m Not Superwoman, and That’s OK!

It’s been about the different hats we wear, the expectations we place on ourselves and how easy it can be to lose sight of our own needs.

One thing I’ve learned is that personal growth doesn’t have a finishing line.

I’m still learning, still getting things wrong and still practising being kinder to myself along the way.

and that’s OK.

So perhaps I’ll leave you with a little question to reflect on.

When was the last time you asked yourself what you needed, rather than what everybody else needed from you? 💗

💗 Learning to be kinder to ourselves

I’d love to say that after years of counselling, personal development and reflection, I’ve got this whole self-compassion thing worked out.

I haven’t!

I can still put pressure on myself, take on too much and forget when I need to stop.

But I am learning.

And one thing I’ve realised is that being kinder to ourselves isn’t always about bubble baths or taking time off.

Sometimes it’s saying no, asking for help or accepting that something is good enough.

We don’t have to get everything right to be enough. 🌿

💭 Whose expectations are they anyway?

I’ve been thinking about that little word should.

I should be doing more. I should be coping better. I should have achieved this by now.

I can be very good at putting pressure on myself, even with things that are supposed to be good for me!

Something I’ve been learning is to question those expectations rather than automatically accepting them.

Are they actually mine? Where have they come from? And perhaps most importantly, are they helping me?

Sometimes we can be doing so much and still feel it’s never quite enough.

I wonder if that feels familiar to you too? 💗

🌿 What about me?

I think many of us are very good at thinking about what everybody else needs.

What do the children need? What needs doing at work? Have I forgotten something? Is somebody relying on me?

Our minds can be constantly working through that invisible list.

But how often do we stop and ask ourselves what we need?

I know that hasn’t always come easily to me.

I’ve learned that recognising our own needs doesn’t mean we care any less about anybody else’s.

Perhaps it simply means we’re including ourselves in that care too. 💗

What do you need today?

🎩 All the hats we wear……

Mam, wife, daughter, sister, friend, counsellor, colleague…

I remember doing an exercise during my own counselling where I drew myself as Superwoman and thought about all the different roles I had in my life.

The list seemed endless!

Looking at it, I realised how much of my life was about being something to somebody else.

And somewhere amongst all those hats, I’d forgotten about Ceri.

I wonder how many of us do this without even realising?

Who are you underneath all the hats you wear? 💗

💗 I’m Not Superwoman, and That’s OK!

For years, I think I believed I had to be Superwoman. The person who could cope, juggle everything, look after everybody else and somehow keep going.

Then, in 2015, my body had other ideas.

My experience of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) made me question some of the expectations I’d placed on myself.

One thing I’m still learning is that I don’t have to be everything to everybody, and I certainly don’t have to get everything right.

I’ve shared more about this in my blog for The Reflection Space.

Perhaps something in it might resonate with you too. 🌿

🌿 Welcome to The Reflection Space

I've been wanting to create a little space on my website for some time where I can share my thoughts, reflections and things I've learned, both through my work as a counsellor and my own life experiences.

So, I've finally done it!

I'm calling it The Reflection Space.

I'm certainly not writing from a place of having everything worked out. I'm still learning myself!

My hope is that something I share might resonate with you, encourage a little reflection or perhaps help you be a bit kinder to yourself.

My blog is called “I'm Not Superwoman, and That's OK!”

I'd love you to have a read. 💗

Just a reminder that you don’t need to have it all figured out. Sometimes the quiet moments, the small steps, and the gentle pauses are the growth. 💛

Feeling overwhelmed? Take a moment to pause, breathe, and reset. You don’t have to do everything at once, focus on one small step at a time. Be kind to yourself. 💛
