Thank you to our clients for your patience and understanding over the last few days while I prioritise my own little family member.

Moments like these remind me why families are at the heart of everything we do at Mourne Neurodiversity Practice. We know that when a child needs you, everything else has to wait.

Your kindness and support have been truly appreciated. We’ll be back to normal very soon. 💛

Every appointment matters.

Thankfully, missed appointments without notice are very rare within our service, and we are incredibly grateful to the families who value and respect our time.

We completely understand that life happens. Families become unwell, childcare arrangements change and unexpected situations arise. If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. We will always do our best to help where we can.

Preparing for an autism assessment involves several hours of clinical preparation, protected appointment time and follow up administration for multiple clinicians. When an appointment is missed without notice, that time cannot usually be offered to another family at short notice, meaning another child misses the opportunity to be seen.

As outlined in our booking terms, assessment booking deposits are non refundable. This helps protect the clinical time that has been reserved specifically for your family.

If you are unable to attend, even a quick phone call, text or email makes a real difference. It allows us to support another family and helps us make the best use of our assessment appointments for everyone.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us provide timely assessments to the families who need them.

Back where it all began… 💙

Today I had the privilege of returning to the School of Psychology ()at Queen’s University Belfast, 15 years after starting my journey there, to take part in a Neurodiversity Forum.

It was such a pleasure to connect with professionals, organisations and advocates who share the same passion for creating more inclusive, supportive environments where neurodivergent students and employees can thrive.

As a Clinical Psychologist, days like today remind me why this work matters so much. Meaningful change happens when we come together, share ideas and keep pushing for better understanding and support.

Thank you to everyone involved for such a welcoming and inspiring day. Here’s to continuing to make a difference together. 💙

☀️ Summer is the perfect time to start Speech & Language Therapy!

Don’t wait until school starts to get support.

Monday clinic appointments are available throughout the summer holidays for:
🌿 Sensory-informed speech & language therapy
🌿 Autism support
🌿 Parent consultations

With fewer school pressures and a more relaxed pace, summer can be a great time for children to build confidence, develop skills and for parents to gain practical strategies.

Before therapy begins, every child receives a comprehensive assessment. This helps us understand your child’s individual strengths, needs and goals, ensuring therapy is tailored specifically to them from the very beginning.

✨ Get in touch to hear about our Summer Therapy Block Offer

Please note: Therapy blocks are available following an initial assessment.

There’s nothing more important to us than helping each child feel safe, understood, and seen. 💛

We are so grateful for feedback like this, as it reflects the care, time, and genuinely neuroaffirmative approach we strive to bring to every assessment.

Creating a space where children feel comfortable to be themselves isn’t a small thing… it’s everything.”

We’re wrapping up our short video series with our Speech and Language Therapist, Eleanor, by looking at communication supports.

Communication looks different for every child. Some children communicate using speech, while others may use gestures, visuals, symbols, AAC, or a combination of different methods.

Communication supports help children express themselves, share their thoughts and needs, understand others, and participate more fully in everyday interactions. By adapting our approach to each child’s strengths and preferences, we can create more opportunities for meaningful communication and connection.

In today’s video, Eleanor shares some of the communication supports we use in our sessions and how they help children communicate with confidence. 💙

Thank you for following along with our series on visual, sensory, and communication supports. If you’d like to learn more about how we support children and families, get in touch.

Day 2 of our short video series with our Speech and Language Therapist, Eleanor!

Today, we’re highlighting sensory supports and the important role they can play in helping children feel comfortable, regulated, and ready to engage.

Every child experiences and responds to sensory information differently. In our sessions, we use a range of sensory supports tailored to each child’s needs, helping to create an environment where they can focus, communicate, learn, and participate more successfully.

Watch today’s video to hear Eleanor explain how sensory supports are used in practice and why they’re such an important part of many children’s therapy journeys. 💙

Follow along this week as we continue exploring the visual, sensory, and communication supports we use in our child sessions.

This week, we’re sharing a series of short videos from our Speech and Language Therapist, Eleanor, offering a glimpse into some of the strategies we use to support children in our sessions.

First up: visual supports 👀

Visuals can help children understand routines, process information, make choices, and communicate more effectively. They can reduce anxiety, increase predictability, and support engagement in a way that works for each child’s individual needs.

Keep an eye on our page this week as Eleanor explores the different visual, sensory, and communication supports we use to help children thrive. 💙
