We caught up with Dr Marcellus Baz BEM, Founder and CEO of Switch Up and the Marcellus Baz Foundation, at our recent Notts Primary Care Conference.
He shared a key lesson that young people have taught him: nobody is the same.
“Everybody is going through a different journey, everybody has a different story and everybody is at a different point in their lives. What we can’t do is look at providing a ‘one shoe fits all’ service. It’s got to be bespoke and it’s got to be where they are right now. Make sure that you look through the lens of compassion and empathy, and really want to go over and beyond to make a difference.”
We then asked him how can primary care services build stronger partnerships with community organisations to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people?
“What’s really important to be able to build partnerships with other organisations like ours is to be able to share the same spaces. We’re very segregated, working in silos. We’ve got to share the same spaces to be able to have the conversations like we’ve at the conference, with people. This enables us to build relationships and partnerships to be able to really serve our communities with trust and confidence.”
