On Friday my daughter accidentally dropped her phone in town… and when I say it’s frazzled, I mean FRAZZLED 😭🤣📱
She rang me from her friend’s phone in an absolute panic. I could hear the worry in her voice, almost scared to tell me what had happened.
I just said, “It was an accident. It’s only a phone. What if it had been YOU that got hurt? Just calm down, we’ll sort it.”
Apparently her friends looked at her and said,
“Jaysus, your mum is so chill!” 🤣😅
But the funny thing is, I don’t actually think I’m particularly chill. I’ve just always had one rule when things go wrong:
“Did you mean to do it?”
You dropped a glass and smashed it? Did you mean to?
No? Then it’s unfortunate. We clean it up and move on.
Now… if you threw the glass, that’s a different conversation. 🤣
Or if I’ve told you 14 times to stop messing before something gets broken… aye, you’re probably getting told off. 😅🙈
But genuine mistakes? Accidents? I just don’t see the point in making someone feel worse when they already feel awful.
Maybe it’s because I’m possibly the clumsiest person alive myself 🤣 but I think it goes beyond broken phones and glasses too.
People deserve fairness. They deserve a chance to explain. They deserve to be judged on their intention, not just the outcome.
We all mess up. We all get things wrong. And sometimes, in life, things really aren't as they first seem.
A little understanding can go a very long way. ❤️
