Some of the things you do today might make more sense when you look at what you needed emotionally growing up 🤍
The behaviours that helped you feel safe as a child can follow you into adulthood, even when your life looks completely different now.
Maybe you learned to stay quiet to avoid conflict. Maybe you became the responsible one so nobody would be disappointed in you. Or maybe you got so used to reading everyone’s moods that you still feel it’s your job to stop things from going wrong.
These patterns don’t appear out of nowhere. They may have helped you cope in an environment where you didn’t feel you had many other options.
But as an adult, they can show up as people-pleasing, finding it hard to set boundaries, or feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions.
You don’t have to judge the younger version of yourself for learning those ways to cope. You can acknowledge why they developed, notice where they might no longer serve you, and gently explore what you need today.
You’re allowed to learn a different way of feeling safe.
Save this for the days you need the reminder, and share it with someone who might need it too.
With love,
