Rehabilitation is the first part of your fitness journey 💛

Rehab is not separate from fitness.

It is the starting point when pain, injury, restriction or confidence loss is stopping you from training properly.

Rehabilitation helps with:

• pain assessment
• injury assessment
• movement restriction
• muscle testing
• hands-on treatment
• mobility work
• activation work
• flare-up management
• return-to-training support

Personal Training helps with:

• strength
• fitness
• technique
• confidence
• training structure
• progressive loading
• accountability
• nutrition and lifestyle guidance within scope

How they work together:

Rehab helps clear the barriers.

PT builds on the progress.

If your shoulder hurts when pressing, your hip will not move well in squats, your knee keeps niggling, or your back flares during core work — rehab helps find the starting point.

Once movement is calmer, stronger and better controlled, PT can help you build fitness more effectively.

Different jobs. Brilliant together.

Movement confidence starts with movement snacks 💛

When pain, injury or a flare-up knocks your confidence, movement can start to feel scary.

You overthink every twinge.
You worry you’ll make it worse.
You stop trusting your own body.

And before you know it, your world gets a wee bit smaller.

Movement confidence is built in small, safe moments.

Not by forcing it.
Not by pretending you are fearless.
Not by jumping straight back into everything and hoping for the best.

It starts with little wins.

• standing up from the chair a few extra times
• walking to the end of the street and back
• practising one controlled squat
• gently moving a stiff shoulder
• testing a step, a reach, a bend or a balance hold
• doing one thing today that felt too scary last week

Tiny things count.

Every safe movement tells your brain and body:

“We can do this.”

That is how confidence starts coming back.

At RMT Perth, we look at what feels restricted, what feels painful, what you are avoiding, and what you want to get back to.

Then we build from there.

Step by step.
Win by win.
With a plan.

You do not need to be fearless.

You just need support, understanding, and a safe place to start.

Beginning rehab or movement? Build the habit, not the hero story 💛 Your body needs to learn to trust movement again.

When people first start rehab or moving, they often want to go full steam ahead.

All exercises.
All motivation.
All the “new me” energy.

Then the body goes:

Absolutely not, pal.

Rehab is not about beasting it for one week, flaring everything up, then disappearing because it feels like it “didn’t work”.

It is about starting small, building confidence, and doing enough that your body can actually cope with it.

Little and often works.

That might mean:

• a few heel raises while making a cuppa
• a few squats when you pass the bathroom
• glute squeezes while brushing your teeth
• gentle movement spread through the day

Not glamorous.
Not dramatic.
But very useful.

The goal is not to do everything perfectly.

The goal is to keep trying, build the habit, and slowly help your body trust movement again.

Understanding the RMT passion 💛

If you know me, you know I love a plan.

Honestly, by the time you have told me what hurts, my brain has already opened twelve tabs, planned three routes forward, and made a wee backup plan just in case your glutes decide not to cooperate.

That is the RMT passion.

It is not just about treatment. It is about helping you understand your body, feel supported, have a plan, and get your money’s worth.

I will explain, guide, research, adjust, encourage and probably lovingly nag when needed.

You just bring honest effort.

Perfection is not required.
Trying is.

It is your body, your plan, your time and your money — and I want to make sure every pound you spend feels worth it.

Want to move, but feel too sore to move?

Or maybe you just don’t know where to start?

At RMT Perth, we meet you where you are.

That might mean starting with passive movement, where the therapist moves you gently first. We can look at your mobility, how you move, where you feel pain, and what restrictions may be holding you back.

For some people, that first step is simply getting moving again.

For others, it might be:

• you can train, but your hip or ankle is stopping your squat depth
• you run, but your knee starts to ni**le after 3K
• you strength train, but your shoulder hurts when pressing
• you feel stiff, guarded, weak, or unsure what your body can handle

Whatever your ability, restriction, or barrier is — that is where we start.

Treatment may include hands-on therapy, mobility work, muscle activation, rehabilitation exercises, movement support, and guidance to help your body feel more confident again.

This can be anything from exercises you can do in bed or on the couch, to 1:1 rehabilitation, or helping you get ready to work with a PT.

We can also work alongside your PT to support your movement, recovery, and confidence.

Movement of any kind matters.

At RMT Perth, we help you through the difficult bit — until you feel ready to move forward on your own.

More than massage — it’s movement, recovery, and care.

YASSSS… strength training making headlines again.

Have you read the recent article "Can two hours of strength training a week could reduce the risk of dying early?"

It comes from new research following over 147,000 people across a 30-year period.

And the findings?

People doing around 90–119 minutes of strength training per week was associated with a 13% lower risk of death from any cause. It was also linked with a 19% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease and a 27% lower risk of death from neurological disease.

The strongest results and lowest risk were seen in people who combined strength training with regular aerobic exercise & a more active lifestyle.

And this is why I bang on about strength training so much.

It found that doing more than 120 minutes of strength training per week didn't appear to bring extra risk reduction, so the message is not “do loads more”.

So the aim is not aiming to train like bodybuilders.
We don't need to live in the gym.
It doesn’t need to be “go hard or go home”.

just try to fit in 2 or 3 structured strength sessions a week can make such a positive change to you and your health.

The long-term health, muscle, strength, ageing, confidence and independence.

Sciatica is one of the most common things we treat at RMT Perth.

The sciatic nerve is the biggest nerve in the body.

It starts from nerve roots in the lower back and sacrum — mainly L4, L5, S1, S2 and S3 — then travels through the pelvis, glute area, down the back of the thigh and branches near the knee into nerves that continue into the lower leg and foot.

That is why sciatic-type pain can feel so intense.

It can feel like:

• sharp pain
• burning
• pulling
• shooting pain
• pins and needles
• numbness
• glute pain
• calf, shin, foot or toe symptoms

It can also make you limp, guard, avoid putting weight through one leg and overwork the other side.

X-rays do not show nerve irritation. They mainly show bones.

MRI scans can sometimes show disc changes or nerve compression, but sciatic-type symptoms can also be affected by soft tissue guarding, glute tension, lower back movement, hip movement or the nerve not gliding well.

At RMT Perth, treatment support may include:

• lower back, hip and glute assessment
• hands-on treatment
• gentle nerve sliders
• supported lower-back open / close movement
• mobility work
• strengthening when tolerated
• confidence-building exercises
• advice to calm irritation

If there is a disc issue or lower-back condition, treatment needs to be adapted carefully.

But you can usually still start with:

• gentle movement
• careful loading
• guided exercises
• symptom-led treatment
• building gradually

Move gently, build gradually, and get assessed if you are unsure.

Always seek urgent medical help if you have:

• symptoms down both legs
• worsening weakness or numbness
• numbness around the groin, ge****ls or bottom
• bladder or bowel changes
• difficulty starting to p*e
• loss of bladder or bowel control
• symptoms after a fall, trauma or accident
