The study will use a Delphi methodology, in which individuals with lived experience, professionals and academics are invited to participate in a series of structured surveys to help build consensus on the key priorities for improving perinatal eating disorder support.
We are currently looking for
People with lived experience of an eating disorder during pregnancy and/or the first year after birth.

Professionals from a range of areas, including maternity services, eating disorder and perinatal mental health services, and other relevant services, who have supported someone with an eating disorder during pregnancy and/or after birth.

Academics with an interest in this area.

Participants do not need extensive experience specifically within perinatal eating disorders. We are keen to hear from people with a wide range of relevant experiences and perspectives.
The initial survey takes about 30 minutes to complete. Participants will also be invited to take two shorter surveys over the following few months.

For responses to be included in the study, the initial survey will need to be completed by the 30th of October. There is a save-and-return option available if participants are unable to complete it in one sitting.
Information about the available support will be provided and participants will also have the opportunity to enter two prize draws to win a £50 voucher.

💡 Exploring the Feasibility and Acceptability of an Age-Adapted Body Project for Younger Pupils

👉️ As an Impact Fellowship at the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East of England, Claire Hodgson is undertaking research on adapting the Body Project for a younger age group.

🌻 Body image begins developing in early childhood, shaped by relationships, cultural norms, gender, sexuality, and language. More than physical appearance; it involves cognitive and emotional perceptions of one's body. Prepubertal body dissatisfaction is increasingly common due to early media exposure and societal appearance pressures. 40–50% of children aged 6–12 express dissatisfaction with their body size or shape, a vulnerability that intensifies during puberty. Body dissatisfaction links to numerous adverse health outcomes, including low self-esteem, poor decision-making, reduced physical activity, and higher risk-taking behaviours such as smoking and alcohol consumption. It significantly elevates the risk for mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.

While various initiatives target body dissatisfaction, "The Body Project" remains the most effective; it is the only program proven to improve mood and achieve a 60% reduction in eating disorder incidence over a three-year follow-up period, reaching over 4.5 million people across 136 countries. Its limitation is that it targets individuals aged 13–25.

Claire is looking to speak with;
- Parents of Year 6 and 7 girls,
- Teachers of Year 6 and 7 girls
- Year 7 girls

To research the applicability and feasibility of delivering The Body Project to Year 6 pupils with the aim of identifying an intervention to be piloted. If you are interested in getting involved please use the following links, scan the QR code on the posters or contact Claire on [email protected].

☀️ PEDS Summer Reminders
Body image thoughts can come and go — some days they’re loud, other days they’re barely there. That’s a normal part of recovery.

When old thoughts resurface, it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you might need a reminder of how far you’ve come. 🌼

☀️ PEDS Summer Reminders
Body checking rarely brings comfort. Reducing it in small steps can help create more headspace and less anxiety.

Social media can be a trigger or a support.
Choosing what you see is an act of self‑care. 🌼
