Finding peace in the New Forrest, until your dog tries to roll in poo 🥴

But seriously, as an adhd woman my mind thinks about thinking about thinking. I can quite literally be thinking about something, and then start thinking about something else and then forget what I even started thinking about that I needed to think about.

It’s a tad exhausting keeping up with my mind.

BUT, that’s why I find tools that keep me sane.

And Forrest’s are the one place that helps me organise my thoughts. Whether it’s a spiritual element or scientific, the trees calm my energy, the quiet regulates my mood and the walking helps me organise my thoughts.

When I was a child there was a woodland behind my house, and I used to be so drawn to it and just stand there alone looking up at the trees.

As an adult, I’m actually able to make sense of this.

Here’s some Forrest facts:
1. Pine and cedar trees release hormones that lower blood pressure, heart rate and adrenaline
2. Cortisol levels are lowered in Forrest’s
3. Forrest’s switch you out of fight or flight into a calm state by soothing your nervous system
4. Unlike urban settings that demand hard focus, natural environments engage “soft fascination,” giving the prefrontal cortex a break from mental fatigue
5. Chemicals trees give off improve our immune system
6. Studies show patients recover faster from surgery when they have a “green view”

And now it makes sense why I feel so calm in a Forrest 🌲🧡

Self care recently… I’ve found this summer much more challenging than usual. The constant heat is dysregulating for me and takes away the access to my usual sources for comfort.

So I’ve been trying to really lean into gratitude, mindfulness, perspectives and creating glimmers when I can.

But I have to say, I’m looking forward to autumn so I can get back to my hikes, trail runs, baths, and afternoon walks 🌲

I’m so incredibly proud of this young boy 👦🏻

He has gone from 9/10 on his anxiety scale to a manageable 4/10 ‼️

He has taken on board all of our homework around challenging and supporting his anxiety, he has learnt about his anxiety and what it’s actually trying to tell him as well as how to get out of his fight or flight response 🦸‍♂️

He is now the master of anxiety and has already accomplished so many things that before didn’t feel possible.

He went on a school trip ‼️
He is going to bed alone ‼️
He is talking his anxiety down ‼️
He as asked to walk alone to school ‼️
He is asking for play dates ‼️
He is doing long car journeys ‼️

And so much more 🩷🥹

Hi everyone! 👋

Here’s a little reintroduction ➡️ I'm Lucy, a Qualified Child & Adolescent Mental Health Coach based in Westbourne.

I support children and young people aged 7–21 with things like anxiety, low self-esteem, confidence, emotional regulation and managing big feelings. I work from my cosy mentoring room alongside my therapy dog, Izzy, who is always on hand for a cuddle (picture below🐶) 💛

At the moment I work mainly 1:1, but I'm thinking about launching some small group mentoring programmes (maximum 4–6 children) and I'd love to hear what local parents think.

I'm currently considering groups around:

🌸 Bloom & Grow – helping children build confidence and self-esteem (around ages 9–10, with some flexibility)

🌿 Managing Anxiety – practical tools to help children understand and manage anxious feelings

🧠 Looking After My Busy Brain – a supportive group for teens to explore emotions, confidence and everyday strategies for busy minds

🌈 The groups would be creative, supportive and arty, with activities, discussions, mindfulness and practical tools that children and young people can take away and use in everyday life.

💛 If you think your child would benefit from one of these groups, I'd love to hear from you.

Please complete my short enquiry form to register your interest and tell me a little about your child and what support you're looking for.

From there, I'll be in touch to arrange a free 20-minute chat to see whether a group would be the right fit and keep you updated with the next steps.

Thank you for your support 🌸

This child arrived to session feeling really flat after struggling to get back into school after half term. So I asked her what would Izzy say to you write now, and she said- Izzy would sing 🎶

So what did we do???

We wrote Izzy’s song about about brave 💪🏻

This child came up with the lyrics and to both our surprise we ended up singing it on repeat. How amazing that she was able to find the words to make a song about being brave, a great way to explore being brave without directly talking about it (as sometimes children shutdown).
