A lot of the power in therapy and coaching work is having a space thatâs safe, nonjudgmental and compassionate to talk about whatâs going on for youâŚ
As a mentor- a few things I say to my clients are âŹď¸
âYou can say anything I wonât judge you, I can just help you understand itâ
âThis is your space and time to talk about whatever you wantâ
âYou donât need to be anyone but yourself, and you are good enough just as you areâ
âBeing weird is wonderful, itâs just about finding people who match your weird and make you feel safe to be yourselfâ
âThat sounds like it felt really tough to hear, I would feel the sameâ
âYouâre allowed to feel whatever it is youâre feeling, letâs explore what we want to do with those feelings or thoughtsâ
âĄď¸ And you can say this at home! Creating a safe space isnât a magical thing a therapist or coach does. Itâs what you can do as a friend, a partner, a sibling, a parent.
Itâs a language you just learn to use, and a silence/ space holding you learn to tolerate and practice.
Are there any sentences you could incorporate when your child is feeling a certain way or expressing anything to you to help them feel like itâs a safe, validating and nonjudgmental space?
