“I hope some patient views help others… the booklets were so helpful in my own diagnosis and treatment.” (Cancer information reviewer.)

Support does not always happen face to face.

Behind the scenes, volunteers reviewed over 150 pieces of Macmillan content in 2025, helping make sure information is clear, accurate and accessible.

Almost 3.5 million people are living with cancer in the UK and access to the right information is not always equal.

Together, over 31,000 volunteers gave 103,000 hours of their time to improve support for others.

Because of you, more people can get the information they need, when they need it.

A phone call from a pharmacist could help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

BHF-funded research presented at the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) found 7 in 10 people got their cholesterol under control with regular follow-up support. These calls helped people stay on track with their medication and understand their treatment. After years of using sunbeds and regularly sunbathing, Eva noticed changes in a mole on her stomach. It started to grow and darken. “I might not have gone to the doctor had my friend not died of ovarian cancer three months earlier,” she says. “That made me realise that cancer can happen to anyone.”

While her GP didn’t think it was suspicious, they referred her to a dermatologist as a precaution, who had the mole removed and biopsied and Eva was diagnosed with melanoma.

Thankfully, she’s now cancer free and keen to spread the message about sun safety.

Eva continued to look out for any changes to her body and had another suspicious mole removed last year. "This was a worry, and it was suspected to be basal cell carcinoma at first. But the results came back that it wasn’t cancer, which was a huge relief," she shares.

Since getting the all clear, Eva decided she wanted to do something special every year. "In 2025, I started solo travelling which seemed scary at first but I fell in love with it. After treatment for melanoma, I felt I had a second chance at life."

We've partnered with NIVEA SUN for the last 14 years to help spread the message of how to enjoy the sun safely. This includes:

🌳 Seeking shade when the sun is strongest (11am-3pm in the UK)
👒 Covering up with clothes, a hat and UV-protection sunglasses
🧴 Applying sunscreen regularly and generously, with SPF 30 or above, and at least 4 stars on the bottle.
