And that's what Bill Oddie – who died this week at the age of 85 – knew.

He was a Goodie, he was a humanist, and will be sorely missed.

Last month we travelled to the National Funeral Exhibition, this is an event held every two years.
It gives a great opportunity to meet our suppliers but also to meet new suppliers. This year we met with a new urn supplier (details will be available on our website soon) we also met a company that makes the most life like sculptures, from a single photograph. Each sculpture is produced using high-precision photopolymer resin, combined with full-colour printing technology. Through layered printing and refined colour application, they aim to recreate tone, depth, and visual nuance, balancing realism with artistic restraint. The material itself offers stable physical properties, with strong structural integrity and a finely detailed surface. It carries a subtle weight and a calm, solid presence to the touch. Under normal conditions, it remains resistant to deformation and fading, making it suitable for long-term display and preservation. Each piece is also carefully finished by hand, with details refined and adjusted to ensure a balanced and considered final result.

There are a few spaces remaining to attend our retreat for parents in early bereavement from 5pm on Friday 17th to 2pm on Sunday 19th July in Leeds.

Proud to announce the latest addition to Safe Hands Funeral Services.
The very smart, fully electric VW ID Buzz will quietly and discreetly transfer loved ones into our care.

The vehicle will also be used as a closed hearse for more simple private/unattended cremations.

The Buzz can also be chosen as an alternative to our traditional hearses, by VW enthusiasts or those looking for something a little different for funeral transport, with a more environmentally friendly vehicle.

There are moments in this work that quietly remind me what a true privilege it is to do what I do.

To every family who has placed their trust in me to care for someone so deeply loved, thank you. It is never something I take lightly. To be invited into such an important and personal time in your lives is an honour that stays with me long after the day itself.

I am so incredibly grateful for your continued support, your kind words, and for allowing me to help create goodbyes that truly reflect the life, personality and love of the person you are remembering. Every farewell matters, and every detail matters.

One family I recently looked after affectionately nicknamed me “the funeral fairy,” 😊 I love this.
A couple of days ago I received the sweetest thank you card, and gifts.
While I am truly humbled by these, what means the most to me is knowing that I was able to bring comfort, care and something meaningful during such a difficult time.

Please know that every family I look after I will always go above and beyond to make each goodbye as personal, thoughtful and as meaningful as it can possibly be.
