Today is National Corn on the Cob Day, celebrated annually to mark the start of the BBQ season and this popular dish, although some of us may have taken advantage of the hot weather at the end of May and started early. Nothing says summer quite like a perfectly grilled corn on the cob and here are a couple of variations for you to try. Cajun Corn on the Cob: Mix garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper, paprika and oregano, then sprinkle lightly. Italian Corn on the Cob: Mix parmesan cheese, powdered garlic and Italian seasonings (basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme and marjoram) and sprinkle lightly.

We are all used to servicing our cars every year, but I wonder how many of you put aside the time to give your own body a service. For those of you that haven’t already heard of us, the Mary How Trust in Pulborough, has been dedicated to promoting health and well-being within our community for over 35 years.
We scan and test for early-signs of many life-threatening illnesses such as heart disease, bowel cancer, diabetes, and aortic aneurysm. We’re here to listen to your health concerns too and offer lifestyle guidance to help you stay well.
We are entirely donor supported and instead of charging a fixed fee, we ask for a donation based on what each person can afford.
If you would like more information on the services we offer, please contact the Mary How Trust on 01798 877640 or see our website, as detailed above.

National Herbs and Spices Day is celebrated annually on 10th June to honour the flavour and culinary contributions of herbs and spices. Herbs and spices have been used for thousands of years, not only to make our food delicious as some also have specific health benefits. For example, Sage is said to improve memory function, Turmeric is said to have anti-inflammatory benefits and Cinnamon is said to lower blood sugar levels which can benefit diabetes.

National Best Friends’ Day is celebrated on 8th June 2026 and is the perfect time to celebrate the special people in our lives who have stuck by us through thick and thin. A best friend can be a good listener, be loyal and understanding, or just that funny person that makes you laugh when you most need to. Whatever the case, best friends are usually those we can trust and who show us lots of support.

Diabetes Week is from 8th to 14th June for 2026. About 90% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes. The signs may not be obvious or there may be no signs at all. Some people can live with it for up to 10 years without being diagnosed. That’s why it is so important to know the risk factors. Your risk increases with age, with high blood pressure, or if you are overweight or living with obesity. As part of the health screening process at the Mary How Trust, we conduct a diabetes risk assessment calculation, a body composition analysis and a blood pressure assessment. Book your health screening and wellbeing consultation today.
