In recognition of June being Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month I would like to share a testimonial from one of my male clients.

For men in particular it can still be hard to reach out for support, to be comfortable with the idea that “it’s ok not to be ok”. When a male client begins to open up in sessions and I am able to witness these barriers begin to break down it is truly an honour and a privilege to be alongside them.

“Just thought I’d drop you a line thanking you for your expertise, patience and support which you gave in my time of need. There is always trepidation when folk (especially men) are finding things tough and seem to be lost with problems that cannot be resolved as they are invisible and hard to describe.
Your help, care and guidance were really needed at my toughest times and I thank you for not judging, just for fighting in my corner. Prising open other’s mental issues must be taxing but if you don’t look at it as a burden then it makes your clients a little more calm and introspective.
Thank you again for our sessions, and though these things may never be cured and the past changed, if the present can be managed, it is indeed a blessing.”

I really loved taking part in the Ladies Night at Mithian School this week. It was great to meet all the other local businesses (and even try out the tap dance taster!)

Sometimes after a session, a moment or a conversation stays with me. This week it was a client saying how she'd valued being able to talk to someone who wasn't a friend or part of her family.

I know when I sought help from a counsellor I felt so relieved to be able to say what I was truly feeling; the release of letting such strong emotions out, without the fear of upsetting or burdening the other person.

Losing a loved one can shape who we are and how we see the world. Noticing and embracing this can bring some comfort as we navigate our grief 💕

You see the world differently because of them.

Not just because of the grief. Because of who they were. What they valued. What they paid attention to. Those things became part of how you think. Part of how you see.

Their influence didn't end. It settled into you. It's in the way you notice small kindnesses. In what you refuse to tolerate. In what you choose to protect.

They're still shaping who you're becoming. That's not the past. That's right now.

The importance of rest - a timely post on a Friday eve. It can be hard to find the time to rest, hard to justify it to ourselves but the truth is it can be so healing - for our minds, bodies and souls.
I hope this weekend you can find some time to rest and you can enjoy it for what it is and what it gives you xx
