Mend Pilates Reformer

Mend Pilates Reformer Injury-aware Reformer Pilates studio in Rochester, for long term strength and recovery. www.mendpilates.com Welcome to Mend. Come as you are. Let’s move.

Mend was born from experience — not in a yoga studio or wellness retreat, but on the job site. After years as a tradesperson, working hard and carrying the usual wear and tear that comes with physical work, our founder found relief not through rest, but through reformer pilates. It was a game-changer — easing old injuries, strengthening where it mattered, and offering a kind of movement that felt

both powerful and restorative. So began the idea for mend. — a place to share that same healing, strengthening experience with others. Now opening in the Intra part of the High Street, Mend is here to offer expert-led classes for everyone — from the Pilates-curious to seasoned movers. Whether you’re recovering, rebuilding, or just want to move well and feel good, you’re welcome here. Let’s mend.

In February, we explored Swan, opening the front of the body and encouraging extension through the thoracic spine.

March brought Mermaid, inviting side bending and creating space through the ribs, waist, and spine.

In April, our focus shifted to the Roll Down, helping us articulate the spine segment by segment while deepening our connection to core control.

That naturally led into May’s matwork focus, where we brought these principles together and integrated them into foundational movement patterns.

Now, in June, we bring everything together with Spine Twist! Rotation is one of the spine’s most important movement patterns, yet it’s often overlooked in daily life.
Spinal rotation requires mobility, stability, control, and breath to work in harmony.

Just as the spine is designed to move in multiple directions, extending, flexing, side bending, and rotating, our monthly focuses have gradually explored each of these qualities, highlighting how beautifully interconnected they are.

When we step back and look at these movements together, we begin to appreciate the incredible design of the human body.

Each movement supports and enhances the next.

Greater extension creates freedom for rotation. Improved side bending brings balance and ease throughout the torso. Better articulation through flexion allows for smoother, more efficient movement in everyday life.
Like pieces of a puzzle coming together, each element contributes to a spine that feels stronger, more resilient, and more mobile.

Our programming is thoughtfully designed to help clients move with greater confidence, feel stronger in their bodies, and support their long-term wellbeing.

The Spine Twist is a wonderful reminder that movement is never isolated. Every part of the body works in partnership with the others, and when we nurture those connections, we create the foundation for both strength and recovery to flourish.

We’ve had a few people ask about the wedges our pregnant members use during class, so here’s a quick explanation.

These are pregnancy wedges. We typically introduce them from around 20 weeks onward for exercises that involve lying on your back.

During pregnancy, lying flat on your back for extended periods can sometimes place pressure on the inferior vena cava, a major vein that helps return blood to the heart. For some people, this may reduce blood flow and lead to symptoms like dizziness or light-headedness.

Using a wedge creates a slight incline, which can help improve comfort and support more optimal positioning during supine exercises.

So whenever we’re doing movements that involve lying flat for a while, we offer the wedges as an option to help members feel more comfortable and supported.

While the physiological effects of prolonged flat-back lying in pregnancy have been documented, there is limited high-quality research on long-term outcomes, so we take a cautious, comfort-first approach.
