Squeaky Voice Time!
Anxious thoughts sound convincing because they usually arrive in a very serious voice.
“You’re going to embarrass yourself.”
“Everyone will judge you.”
“Everything is going to go wrong.”
So today, we’re changing the voice.
Choose one anxious thought and repeat it in the most ridiculous voice you can imagine.
Try a squeaky cartoon character, a dramatic movie trailer voice or someone who has inhaled far too much helium.
“You’re going to ruin the presentation!”
It suddenly loses a bit of its authority, doesn’t it?
This NLP-style technique can create distance between you and the thought, helping you recognise it as mental chatter—not a fact, instruction or prediction.
You’re not ignoring the thought. You’re changing how your brain responds to it.
Because anxiety is far less intimidating when it sounds like a furious cartoon squirrel.
Save this and try it the next time your inner voice starts taking itself far too seriously.
