A large project in Aberystwyth, which includes multiple elements celebrating local history, heritage and pride 😍

Some elements include: The Welsh language, the protest which took place on Trefechan Bridge in 1963 and a nod to the national Cycle routes on the area. Locals gave suggestions for the designs, and with this project, the community get to see their ideas brought to life and immortalised by mural! Thanks to Artist Mark for the great work!

A brand new mural for Whitestone school 😍

This design includes elements from the pupils' very own drawings and ideas. The main themes include inclusion, diversity and strength, symbolised by the oak tree. Read what Head Teacher Peterson had to say about the mural:

Whitestone Primary School in West Cross, is proud to unveil a vibrant new mural celebrating the values of welcome, inclusion and belonging, following its successful recognition as a School of Sanctuary.

The striking artwork, which now brightens a prominent wall at the Whitestone Primary school, was created as part of the school's ongoing commitment to ensuring that everyone feels safe, valued and welcome within the Whitestone community.

The mural's theme of "Welcome and Inclusion" was inspired by the school's journey towards achieving School of Sanctuary status – a nationally recognised award that celebrates schools dedicated to fostering a culture of understanding, compassion and support for all.

What makes the mural particularly special is the significant contribution made by pupils from across the school. Children were invited to share their ideas, drawings and thoughts about what welcome and inclusion mean to them. These creative contributions formed the basis of the final design, ensuring that the mural truly reflects the voices and values of the Whitestone community.

At the heart of the artwork is a large oak tree, a symbol chosen to represent the magnificent oak tree and natural surroundings within the school's grounds. The oak stands as a powerful reminder of strength, growth and community, while the welcoming branches embrace the words "Inclusion" and "Welcome".

The colourful design also features images created from pupils' ideas, alongside bright, uplifting artwork that reflects friendship, diversity and a sense of belonging for everyone who enters the school.

The mural now serves as a daily reminder of Whitestone Primary School's commitment to creating an environment where every child, family and member of the wider community feels welcomed, respected and included.
