🌙 Night Worker Medicals: protecting your workforce working through the night

Working nights isn’t just a shift pattern change, it places additional demands on the body’s natural rhythms, sleep cycles, and overall wellbeing.

Under the Working Time Regulations 1998, employers have a legal duty to offer free health assessments to night workers to help ensure they are medically fit for night work and supported appropriately.

At Insight Workplace Health, our Night Worker Health Assessments help employers meet their legal responsibilities while protecting employee health, safety, and performance.

Why they matter:
• Night work can disrupt sleep patterns and the body clock
• Fatigue can reduce concentration, reaction times, and decision-making
• Certain medical conditions may be affected by shift or night work
• Early identification can support adjustments and reduce risk

Night worker assessments should be offered before starting night work and then on a regular ongoing basis, helping ensure employees remain safe, supported, and fit for their role.

If your organisation employs night workers, now is the time to make sure you are compliant and proactively protecting your team.

Statutory Sick Pay changes are increasing both the cost and impact of sickness absence for employers.

But the bigger question is how organisations respond when health issues first emerge.

Our early intervention service is designed to help employers take that proactive approach, giving clear advice, practical recommendations, and support when it’s needed most.
