SafeSpace Gordon Winters Loneliness, conversation & human connection. A real conversation with a real person.
30-min WhatsApp chat £15. DM "CONNECT". To feel connected.

Mission Statement

SafeSpace is about loneliness, conversation, connection and belonging. I believe sometimes people don't need counselling or therapy. Sometimes they simply need a real conversation with a real person. My main focus is supporting men aged 18 to 35 who may be experiencing loneliness, isolation, rejection, difficulty forming friendships or relationships, or simply feeling they have

nobody they can really talk to. SafeSpace also raises awareness of loneliness at different stages of life, from the challenges teenagers can experience while trying to find their place in the world, to the isolation and changing relationships that can sometimes come with later life. The circumstances may be different, but the human need is much the same:

To feel heard. To feel that we belong. SafeSpace provides friendly, informal conversation and encouragement without judgement or pressure. You don't need to be in crisis. You don't need a diagnosis. You don't need to commit to regular conversations. And you don't need to justify why you'd simply like someone to talk to.

30-minute WhatsApp voice or video conversation: £15. Talk once, occasionally, or whenever you feel a conversation would help. SafeSpace is not counselling, therapy, crisis intervention or medical treatment. It is simply genuine human conversation and support. Loneliness → Conversation → Connection → Belonging

FROM THE HEART

HOW WELL DO WE REALLY KNOW EACH OTHER?

I've spent a lot of years listening to people.

And one thing I've learned is that appearances are remarkably unreliable.

The confident person can be full of self-doubt.

The funny one can go home to an incredibly quiet evening.

The person who always helps everybody else may have absolutely no idea who to call when they need somebody.

And the person who says, “I'm fine” may simply have become very good at saying it.

We're strange creatures really.

We can know somebody's job, birthday, favourite football team, coffee order and what they had for dinner because Facebook told us...

and still have no idea what they're worried about at 2am.

Perhaps knowing about somebody and actually knowing them are two very different things.

I've been thinking more recently about personality, identity and what makes each of us who we are.

The more I explore it, the less interested I become in putting people into boxes.

I'm becoming more interested in opening the boxes we've already put ourselves in.

Maybe real connection begins with curiosity.

Not assuming we know.

Not immediately trying to fix.

Just occasionally asking the second question.

“How are you?”

“Fine.”

“No, I mean... how are YOU?”

You might be surprised by what happens next.

And perhaps somebody has been waiting a very long time for you to ask.

Who in your life deserves a second question today?

A THOUGHT FOR PARENTS

Your teenager tells you someone they like isn't interested in them.

It's tempting to say:

“Don't worry, there are plenty more fish in the sea.”

We're trying to make them feel better.

But to a teenager experiencing rejection for perhaps the first time, that particular fish may currently feel like the only fish in the entire Atlantic Ocean.

Perhaps the first response doesn't need to be advice.

Maybe it's simply:

“That must hurt. Do you want to talk about it?”

Sometimes young people don't need us to make the feeling disappear.

They need to know we're willing to sit with them while they work through it.

TEEN TRUTHS | EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HAVE SOMEONE

At that age when friends suddenly start getting girlfriends or boyfriends, being the one who doesn't can feel surprisingly difficult.

You might start wondering:

Why doesn't anyone like me?

Am I not attractive enough?

Am I too quiet?

Is there something wrong with me?

And social media doesn't exactly help when everybody else's relationships seem to be appearing on your screen.

Today's Teen Truths Reel is about something many young people experience but don't necessarily talk about.

Being single isn't evidence that you're failing at growing up.

And having a girlfriend or boyfriend isn't proof that somebody else has life worked out either.

Sometimes you're simply not there yet.

And that's okay.

A relationship can add something wonderful to your life.

It shouldn't be the thing that decides what your life is worth.

Sometimes that's difficult to remember when it feels as though everyone around you has someone.

A little Teen Truths thought for today.

TEEN TRUTHS

At what age did having a girlfriend or boyfriend suddenly start feeling important?

Not because you necessarily wanted a relationship...

But because everyone else seemed to be getting one.

Sometimes the pressure isn't:

“I want someone.”

It's:

“Why hasn't anyone chosen me?”

And those are two very different feelings.

Do you think young people today feel under more pressure to be in a relationship?

🔵 TODAY’S REFLECTION

You can have workmates, friends, family, group chats and people around you every day — and still feel that nobody really knows what's going on underneath it all.

Sometimes loneliness isn't about having nobody around.

It's about missing that one genuine connection where you can simply be yourself.

What do you think — is feeling known more important than simply having lots of people around you?

You’ve got people you know.

Workmates.

People you have a laugh with.

A WhatsApp group that never seems to stop.

Maybe people you game with, go to the gym with or meet for a drink.

So why can you still feel lonely?

Because knowing people and feeling known aren't necessarily the same thing.

You can spend an entire day surrounded by people without having one conversation where you can simply be yourself.

No banter.

No pretending everything's fine.

No worrying about what somebody will think.

Just you.

I think that's something we sometimes miss when we talk about loneliness, particularly amongst younger men.

We imagine somebody sitting completely alone with nobody in their life.

Sometimes loneliness looks nothing like that.

Sometimes it's the bloke making everyone else laugh.

The one who's always at work.

The one who joins everyone at the pub.

The one whose phone never stops buzzing.

And yet when something genuinely difficult happens, he isn't quite sure who he could talk to.

So perhaps the better question isn't:

“How many mates have you got?”

Perhaps it's:

“How many people really know how you're doing?”

And if the answer to that question is nobody, perhaps it's worth remembering that it doesn't always have to stay that way.

Sometimes connection begins with one genuine conversation.

If you could do with one, CONNECT with SafeSpace.
