A great result after just two treatments! 👣

This client came to see me after experiencing severe pain on the top of both feet for around six months, rating the pain at 9/10.

Using Dr. Richard Tan's Balance Method Acupuncture, combined with soft tissue massage, the aim was to reduce pain and restore comfortable movement.

📍 First treatment (black arrows): During the initial assessment, I also identified tenderness around the heels of both feet on palpation, suggesting there may be an element of plantar fascia involvement. At the time, the client hadn't realised this because the pain on the top of the feet was so severe that it was masking the heel discomfort.

Following the first treatment, the client experienced immediate relief, with the pain on the top of the feet reducing by around 50%. As those symptoms settled, he then became aware that he had indeed been experiencing pain around both heels as well.

📍 Second treatment (red arrows): At the follow-up appointment, I reassessed the remaining pain. The client identified:

Left foot: discomfort along the Gallbladder channel.

Right foot: discomfort along the Bladder channel.

Based on these findings, I adjusted the Balance Method treatment to match the remaining presentation.

✨ The result? By the end of the second treatment, the client reported that the pain on the top of his feet had completely resolved.

This case is a good reminder that when one pain is particularly intense, it can sometimes mask other underlying issues. A thorough assessment and reassessment at each visit helps ensure treatment evolves as symptoms change.

Every person responds differently, and results vary. This is one individual's experience and should not be taken as a guarantee of outcome.

If you've been living with persistent foot pain, I'd be happy to discuss whether acupuncture could be appropriate for you.

❤️ Messages like this make my day.
This lovely client came to see me with unexpected bleeding between periods, along with bloating, swollen feet and low energy—symptoms that can sometimes occur as hormones begin to change.
After just one treatment, the bleeding started to settle, the swelling reduced, and she felt so much better she even went for a jog. 🥰
I love helping my clients feel more like themselves again. 💛

This client's MRI confirmed 4 herniated discs, with 2 compressing the sciatic nerve.
The great news? Before the MRI results, acupuncture combined with tailored exercises had already made a huge difference. She's now able to walk and stand for much longer with significantly less pain.
Acupuncture doesn't reverse a herniated disc, but it can help:
✨ Reduce pain
✨ Ease muscle tension and protective spasm
✨ Calm irritated nerves
✨ Improve movement and function
✨ Support the body's natural healing processes

🚨 Why am I putting acupuncture needles in the LEFT wrist when the pain is in the RIGHT wrist and RIGHT ankle?

Most people think acupuncture is always done where it hurts...

Not always.

This is one of the principles of the Balance Method, where corresponding channels can be used to influence pain in another part of the body.

In this treatment:
🖐️ Left wrist ➜ Right wrist
🖐️ Left wrist ➜ Right ankle

Patients are often surprised at how quickly they notice changes while the painful area isn't even being needled.

Would you trust a treatment that works away from the painful area?

Tell me YES or NO in the comments. 👇

Knees and Ankle Arthritis treatment

🚶‍♂️➡️🚶‍♂️
Today a client arrived using TWO crutches, barely able to walk due to severe knee and ankle pain from arthritis.
After assessing the areas involved, I used Balance Method Acupuncture with direct image correspondence—treating the opposite elbow to influence the knee and the wrist to influence the ankle.
The result? 👇
✅ Pain reduced significantly during the session
✅ Improved confidence in movement
✅ Walked out holding the crutches instead of relying on them
I also applied K-tape to provide additional support and stability as the joints had been giving way.
One of the things I love about Balance Method Acupuncture is how quickly it can reduce pain. Sometimes the results last for days, weeks, or even months. That's why I always prefer to see how your body responds before planning ongoing treatment.
Your body has an incredible ability to change when given the right input. ✨

"I didn't expect acupuncture to work that quickly"

Sometimes stress shows up in ways we don't expect.

This lovely client came in primarily for stress management. Despite eating well, exercising regularly and generally taking good care of herself, she had noticed she was holding onto more weight around her abdomen than she was used to.

She felt that ongoing stress and elevated cortisol levels may be playing a role, alongside some digestive changes.

For today's treatment I used a combination of acupuncture points chosen to help calm the nervous system, regulate digestion and encourage the body to move out of "fight or flight" mode.

🌿 The Four Gates (LIV3 & LI4) to promote the smooth movement of Qi, reduce stress and help the body unwind.

🌿 SP9 and ST36 to support digestion, fluid metabolism and overall energy.

🌿 Yintang, DU24 and DU20 to help quiet a busy mind, improve mental clarity and encourage deep relaxation.

One of the things I love about acupuncture is that sometimes the body responds incredibly quickly.

At her previous session, she only had around 15 minutes of acupuncture after receiving massage and cupping therapy. She later told me she had to sit in her car for a while before driving home because she felt so deeply relaxed and "zoned out." Once home, she had a nap and was genuinely surprised by how quickly the treatment had worked.

Stress affects far more than just our mood. It can influence sleep, digestion, energy levels, hormones and how our bodies store weight.

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is give the nervous system permission to switch off. 💛

✨ When the scar heals, the story isn't always over.

A recent client came to see me with persistent lower abdominal and lower back pain following multiple abdominal surgeries.

In 2022, she underwent an open myomectomy to remove 16 fibroids that had contributed to infertility. Prior to surgery she experienced heavy, painful periods, which thankfully resolved after the operation.

She later went on to have two successful pregnancies delivered by C-section. During her first C-section, significant adhesions were identified and removed. However, during her second C-section, those adhesions were not addressed, and following the birth of her youngest child—now just 14 months old—she was left with ongoing pain, tightness and restriction through her abdomen, pelvis and lower back.

Over the last three treatments I have combined:

🌿 Scar-focused acupuncture to address restrictions around the C-section scar

🌿 Balance Method acupuncture, using the wrists and ankles as a mirror image of the lower abdomen

🌿 Fascial and muscle release work, particularly around the hips and psoas

🌿 Cupping therapy to reduce tension through the lower back and surrounding structures

The results so far have been incredibly encouraging.

💛 After treatment two she experienced several completely pain-free days.

💛 Even when discomfort returned, it was only mild compared with what she had been experiencing before treatment.

💛 By treatment three we were able to continue building on those improvements and target the remaining restrictions.

Many people assume that pain after surgery is simply something they have to live with. Sometimes restrictions within scar tissue and surrounding fascia continue to affect how the body moves and feels long after the incision itself has healed.

This is why I love treating scars. Sometimes a small area can have a much bigger impact on the body than people realise.

The photos show some of the techniques used during treatment, including direct scar acupuncture and Balance Method acupuncture.
