❤️*Restart a Heart Day* ❤️
Early recognition is key to start someone’s chain of survival …..
The 1st person on the scene is the most important person to someone’s survival to bridge the gap between collapse and professional medical help….
If someone is unresponsive - Call 999
If someone is NOT BREATHING normally Start Chest Compressions, if trained, willing or able to do so, give rescue breaths to give additional O2
30 x chest compressions : 2 x breaths
Repeat - repeat - repeat ….. keep going to allow someone to get to you with an AED, which may restore normal cardiac rhythm to their heart, your quick response and actions will allow time for paramedics, the air ambulance and hospital staff to do their amazing work!
❤️ if your casualty is under 18 or drowning - giving O2 and compressions are vital in their respiratory / cardiac arrest - current guidelines for those trained in basic life support for under 18’s are;
Give 5 x rescue breaths-to boost O2
Then repeat 15 chest compressions : 2 breaths and keep repeating until AED and further help arrives ❤️

When someone has a cardiac arrest, every second counts.

Ahead of Restart a Heart Day on 16 October, learn 6 simple steps that could help save a life. ❤️

1️) If safe to approach and you find someone unconscious, call 999 immediately.
2️) Assess the person to see if they are breathing.
3) Start chest compressions if they are unresponsive and not breathing normally.
4) Continue CPR until a defibrillator arrives and is switched on and attached to the person.
5) Follow the instructions from the defibrillator or emergency call handler.
6) Keep giving chest compressions until the ambulance arrives.

You can put your skills into practice with RevivR, our free online CPR training tool. In just 15 minutes, you can learn the lifesaving skills that could help someone survive a cardiac arrest.

Increasing awareness of Restart a Heart Day - 16th October
Spending a few minutes to learn CPR can save a life ❤️

Restart a Heart Day takes place on Friday 16 October. This global day raises awareness of cardiac arrest and the lifesaving difference CPR and defibrillators can make. Here are four things we can all do to help give someone the best chance of survival:

1) Learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Anyone can learn with our free online training tool, RevivR. It only takes 15 minutes, and one day those skills could help save a life. https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes

2) In an emergency, every second counts. Knowing where to find your nearest defibrillator could save precious time and help save a life. Find yours here: https://www.defibfinder.uk/

3) Register your defibrillator on The Circuit. If there's a defibrillator in your workplace, community venue or organisation, make sure it's registered on The Circuit so ambulance services know where to find it when it's needed most. https://www.thecircuit.uk/

4) Help get a defibrillator in your community. Eligible community groups can apply for a fully funded defibrillator. Find out more here: https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/defibrillators/apply-for-a-free-defibrillator-for-your-community

Together, we can help save more lives from cardiac arrest.
