September. New season. Additional classes added.

Tuesday evening : After moon sequence we have pranayama, breathwork. This is a 30 mins class where we focus solely on the breath. Without good breathing technique we have higher risk of injury in physical practice. I can’t convey enough how important this class is for both physicals and mental.

Wed evening : Ashtanga variations which is a class based on Ashtanga Primary series with a few added postures and modifications.

Friday morning : Another Vikasa Krama class which is our accessible yoga class where we will focus on parts of the body that mostly get ignored. Feet and joint work with some traditional standing postures included.

Look forward to seeing you all at practice 🤸‍♂️

Each flower, same same but different.

What’s homeopathy got to do with yoga and why do I keep posting about it.

When I first came to yoga 15 years ago I practiced Ashtanga. I found a teacher who taught privately rather than in a studio so my experience of practice was always deeply individualised. I also had a teacher who didn’t think the word ‘modify’ was a curse word.

Many trips to India I would see Ayurvedic doctors, learning about my own constitution and more about myself. Then recently over the past 4 years delving into Homeopathy. Where the individual is central to the case not the name of the disease. How the picture presents itself within the individual, what are their symptoms and experiences. So its not a one size fits all approach.

One persons cure is another persons poison.

So I try and also take this into my teaching. Each body carried its own story. With its strengths and weaknesses but ultimately with everyone having the same potential to connect with their own body’s intelligence and feel freedom within their own body (something Vanda Scaravelli spoke a lot about).

Classes this week 🌿

Various different classes depending on what’s needed for the individual.

Moon for a more grounding meditative practice.

Vikasa for a slow accessible practice working on releasing tension as well as mobility.

Lion Cub the most physically therapeutic working on alignment and stability.

Ashtanga Variations for a dynamic practice, working on fire and strength.

Self practice practising from one the above sequences to your own breath, offering hands on assists and modifications which are individual.

I realise my previous post might have been a bit unclear. I'm taking a year out from my Homeopathy course (albeit I've still got some other things here I need to complete). Yoga Loft is absolutely continuing and the break for a year will also help me be able to spend more time growing this space :)

The past few years have been 🤯🤯🤯 actually I would say ever since I came back from India before Covid.

In six years I’ve moved home 3 times albeit this is now our last move ever. I’ve completed two additional yoga teacher trainings with my teacher Matthew Sweeney and due to finish my last one in December. Finally, yesterday I submitted my last assignment for my Year 2 Homeopathy. Of course I’ve been immersed in fields I’m deeply passionate about but there’s not really been time for integration. So I’m taking a year out of Homeopathy, to delve more into my course without assignments and just to get lost in what I’m interested in Kingdoms, maybe sensation method I’ll see where it takes me.

I don’t like to rush things and I don’t like to just collect certificates but I care deeply about gaining knowledge from the right people with valid experience. My yoga teacher training for me was really my whole two years living and practicing with my teacher in India, I also was practicing for five years before even considering taking that path. The experience I gained just being in Mysore being immersed in culture and living the practice daily was invaluable which is why I’m excited to have time to immerse myself in a Homeopathy as a way of living and not just ticking assignment boxes. What I mean by that is planting some of the flowers and plants that are remedies, watching their characteristics in nature and start connecting more with these remedies which takes time and space.

Today was the first day I have had, in who knows how long that I didn’t have pranayama or practice or assignments or a class to teach and was forced to rest by my husband. I literally didn’t know what to do. So Kala and I chilled at the cafe at the studio. Both feeling like we needed a big sigh and a nap! 💖🌳🌿

I’m a firm believer in self practice. It was how I was taught for six years before heading to Mysore where again all classes are taught via self practice.

Unfortunately the only system that ever taught yoga this way was Ashtanga until Matthew created VKM which also taught self practice (of course since Matthew was from an Ashtanga background).

This is one of the best things Ashtanga gave me but what I noticed in the West was that Ashtanga was not so accessible to everyone. Which is why I learned VKM. Added again although there is a lot of variation in VKM and since Matthew was getting a lot of Ashtangis not every sequence was again accessible for everyone. Hence I created a sequence which is accessible for self practice based on the students I have and also combining some of my own favourite movement practices from Feldenkrais and Scaravelli. It is also just fun to create and have freedom to combine what can be beneficial for students. However still having the container of a sequence.

I believe self practice should absolutely be available for everyone. People of all ages and abilities practising together but doing their own practice to their own breathing and where the practice can be modified and adjusted for each individual!

Homeopathy! My other love along with yoga.

Two more assignments to go and year 2 will be complete. I’ll have another 2 years to go but next year I’ll be able to start clinic with Supervision.

We are not just a physical body. The physical is just a manifestation of our emotional and mental planes. What a wonder it is to watch the body manifest and adapt where it needs to. The body’s own intelligence is fascinating if only we would get out of our own way. When we cut a finger we do not need to tell the body what to do in order for it to heal the finger, it just does it with an intelligence. For times when that intelligence is slow or sluggish that’s where Homeopathy comes in. In order to kick start the body’s intelligence to heal again🕊️🕊️

All our medicine can already be found in nature 🌞🌅🌿🕊️
