Creativity, fresh air and wellbeing at Thornhill House 🌿💙

At Strong Life Care's Thornhill House Care Home, the team knows that meaningful activities are about much more than keeping busy. They help residents stay active, social, creative and connected to the world around them.

With the warmer weather upon us, many of our residents have been enjoying time outdoors, making the most of the garden and all the benefits that fresh air and nature can bring. Spending time outside can help lift mood, encourage conversation and support overall wellbeing.

Last week, residents combined creativity with sustainability, making beautiful wind chimes from recycled bottles. The finished creations look absolutely amazing and have added a splash of colour and character to our outdoor spaces.

Activities like these provide opportunities to learn new skills, express creativity and enjoy a real sense of achievement. Just as importantly, they bring people together, spark conversation and create plenty of smiles along the way.

At Thornhill House, it's these moments of creativity, companionship and connection that help make every day meaningful.

Going the extra mile for residents at The Beeches 👟💙

At The Beeches Care Home in Armthorpe, the team is always looking for ways to create memorable experiences for residents — and recently they quite literally went the extra mile.

Staff members took part in a seven-mile sponsored walk, setting off from The Boat Inn in Sprotbrough and making their way back to the home on Beech Road, all in support of a very special cause.

Their efforts raised almost £300, which will be used to fund a fantastic day out for residents at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

What makes this achievement so special isn't just the money raised, but the commitment behind it. It reflects the dedication of a team that is passionate about enriching the lives of residents and creating opportunities for new experiences, enjoyment and lasting memories.

Days out play an important role in wellbeing, helping residents stay connected to their community, enjoy new surroundings and continue doing the things that bring them pleasure.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, donated and supported the fundraiser. Thanks to your efforts, our residents will soon be enjoying a well-deserved adventure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Just over two weeks ago, colleagues, residents' families, partners and friends came together at Wakefield Trinity for the Strong Life Care Awards 2026.

There may have been a few sore heads on the Sunday morning, but the memories from what was an incredible evening are still very much alive! 😊

Today, we're delighted to launch our official awards photo gallery, featuring hundreds of images from a night that celebrated the very best of Strong Life Care and the amazing people who make our homes such special places to live and work.

Congratulations once again to all of our award winners. From care, nursing and activities to housekeeping, maintenance, leadership and community engagement, the evening recognised some truly outstanding people and teams who go above and beyond for residents every single day.

A huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors – Bevan Brittan LLP, NatWest Group, Insight Commercial Finance, Medwin Pharmacy, AVE and AFP Technology – whose support helped make the evening possible.

We're also incredibly grateful to Wakefield Trinity for being such fantastic hosts, and to everyone who helped create an atmosphere filled with pride, laughter, celebration and friendship. From the casino tables and photo booth to the dancefloor and award presentations, it was a night to remember.

One of the most moving moments of the evening came from Kegan Powell, who shared her family's experience of Candlelighters. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, we raised almost £4,000 for this incredible charity.

Most importantly, thank you to every member of the Strong Life Care family. Whether you took home an award, supported a colleague, helped organise the evening or simply joined in the celebrations, you helped make it a truly special occasion.

Innovation in care isn't always about technology – sometimes it's the simplest ideas that have the greatest impact 💙

Yesterday, colleagues from Cooper House Care Home, including Home Manager Vicky and Deputy Manager Uzair, were joined by Sarah and Kerry from Tenlands Care Home, Pam from Church View Care Home, and Dorota, Regional Manager for Strong Life Care, for a fascinating presentation from Anjali Treloar and Chris of RGS Group.

The team were introduced to Air with Flavour, an innovative product designed to enhance comfort and wellbeing for people receiving end-of-life care.

For individuals who may no longer be able to enjoy food and drink as they once did, the product offers a unique sensory experience that can bring comfort, enjoyment and a sense of normality during what can often be a difficult time for both residents and their families.

As care professionals, we are always looking for ways to improve the experience of those we support. It was inspiring to learn how such a simple concept can help promote dignity, comfort and person-centred care.

A huge thank you to Anjali and Chris for sharing their knowledge, answering our many questions and helping us explore new ways to enhance the care we provide.

At Strong Life Care, we never stop learning, because even the smallest innovations can make a meaningful difference to someone's day.

💙⭐ Meet the Finalists! ⭐💙

We are incredibly proud to share that colleagues and teams from across Strong Life Care have been shortlisted as finalists in the Palliative Care Awards.

These awards recognise the people who make a difference when it matters most — supporting residents and families with compassion, dignity, kindness and understanding during some of life's most challenging moments.

Being there for someone at the end of their life is a privilege. It takes skill, empathy and a commitment to ensuring every person receives the care, comfort and respect they deserve.

We are delighted to have so many finalists representing our homes, and we wish every one of them the very best of luck as they prepare for their interviews later this month.

Some people simply refuse to stand still when it comes to making a difference — and Christian Whiteley-Mason and the team at Thornhill House Care Home in Darfield, Barnsley are a perfect example of that. 🖤✨

At the Strong Life Care Awards 2026, Christian was proudly presented with the Community Engagement and Reach award in recognition of the incredible work he and the Thornhill House team continue to do within the local community.

This is about far more than fundraising alone.

Over the last year, Thornhill House has consistently gone above and beyond to support important causes across Barnsley and beyond — raising awareness and vital funds for organisations including Barnsley Hospice Barnsley Hospital Charity, and Help 4 Homeless Veterans projects.

Whether it has been Christian stepping onto the dancefloor for Strictly, the team taking part in parachute jumps, collecting hundreds upon hundreds of chocolate bars, or helping support furniture and beds for vulnerable veterans in need of accommodation, the team has continually found ways to bring people together and make a genuine difference.

Importantly, this work has also helped build stronger connections between the home, families and the wider community. With support from both the current and former Mayor of Barnsley, Thornhill House has become a recognised and respected part of the local community — helping raise awareness not only of important charities, but also of the warm, caring environment within the home itself.

At Strong Life Care, we are incredibly proud of the way Christian and the Thornhill House team consistently set the bar for community engagement, compassion and teamwork.

Their passion, energy and commitment have not only raised significant amounts for charity, but have also helped put Thornhill House firmly on the map for families looking for care and support in the Barnsley area.
