A message from Caroline.

I would like to thank all the GPs, staff, past colleagues, friends, and patients for the incredible kindness shown to me on my retirement. I truly thought I would just slip quietly out the door, but your generosity has been overwhelming. The flowers, gifts, cards filled with such thoughtful words, and the lovely comments on Facebook have meant more than I can say.

I have absolutely loved my job in reception at the surgery over the past 26 years and dealing with all the patients, not only were they patients but good friends too.

I wish everyone the very best for the future, and thank you again for all the kindness you have shown me.

Update on Wegovy and NHS Lothian Referrals

Following the recent announcement confirming that Wegovy has now been approved for use within NHS Scotland, we know many patients are looking for more information.

NHS Lothian also announced yesterday that all weight‑management referrals are currently paused while the new pathway is being finalised.

Please remember that Wegovy is a prescription‑only medicine and should only be used under clinical supervision. We’ll share updates as soon as NHS Lothian confirms the revised pathway.

Please note the Weight Management Service is not able to accept referrals for Obesity Management Medicines at this time. West Calder Medical Practice will be closed on Monday 15th June for the public holiday.

We will reopen as normal on Tuesday 16th June.

**5th June 2026 Update**

We want to update our patients that West Calder Medical Practice is facing real staffing pressures. We are currently three GPs down for the foreseeable future, and despite our best efforts, we have been unable to secure enough locum cover. This means our appointments and phone lines are much busier than usual, and appointments are limited.

We really need our patients to work with us while we navigate this difficult period. If your issue is urgent, please get in touch and we will ensure you are seen appropriately. For anything less urgent, your patience makes a huge difference.

A reminder that most local pharmacies have a prescribing pharmacist who can treat and prescribe for:

Throat infections
Ear infections
Chest infections
Urinary tract infections in females
Allergies
Shingles
Skin infections
Eye infections
Eczema

They may be able to help you more quickly and conveniently.
