Did you know?

Group B Strep (GBS) is the UK’s most common cause of severe infection in newborn babies.

Around 1 in 5 to 2 in 5 pregnant women carry Group B Strep naturally. For most, it causes no symptoms and they won’t know they have it. Most babies born to parents carrying GBS remain completely well.

However, in some cases, GBS can be passed to a baby during labour and birth, leading to serious infections such as sepsis, pneumonia or meningitis. Early recognition of risk factors and appropriate care during labour can significantly reduce the risk of infection.

If you have experienced the loss of a baby due to Group B Strep or another pregnancy or newborn complication, please know that there is specialist support available for you.

I am only a message away.

‘We have Midwives who don’t even tell other people they are a Midwife because of the negativity surrounding our profession’

Becoming a Midwife used to be because it was a vocation because you wish to help women give birth. And yet somehow this seems to have got lost in the additional stress, pressures and workload surrounded by negativity.

If your department or you personally are a Midwife or healthcare professional, you may be eligible for fully funded PROP (Professional Reflective Occupational Practice) sessions.

Starting counselling can feel daunting, especially if you’ve never experienced it before.

Many people worry they’ll say the wrong thing, become emotional, or won’t know where to begin.

But there is actually no right or wrong way.

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, explore what’s brought you here, and discuss how I can support you moving forward.

You don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t need to have everything figured out.

You simply need to show up as yourself which is where your healing journey begins.

If you’ve been considering counselling but feel nervous about taking that first step, feel free to get in touch and we can see if it is right for you.

Many men feel they need to be the strong one holding everything together after the loss of a baby.

But behind that strength can be heartbreak, sadness, anger, anxiety, guilt and grief.

Too often, men are telling themselves that their feelings are not as important as their partners.

But losing a baby affects both parents, not just one.

Seeking support isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s sign that you’re giving yourself permission to process one of life’s most difficult experiences.

This Men’s Mental Health Week, let’s recognise that men need support too.

My blog on my website can also help Dads navigate their grief journey with a book recommendation too.

You can find the blog here: https://www.lifecarecounselling.com/2024/06/25/support-for-bereaved-dads/

If you or you know someone who may be struggling, understand you are not on your own.

Mental health does not discriminate and neither does support.

You deserve to be heard, understood and supported with compassion.

Give yourself permission to ask for help when you need it.

It might be asking for help around the house, support at work or just a listening ear.

Because you don’t have to do this on your own.

Specialist support is also available if you need. Just pop me a message if you would like a quick telephone call.
