There’s something pretty special about swimming somewhere that sits quite literally between the pool and the Atlantic. 🌊

Bude Sea Pool officially opened in 1930, creating a semi-natural tidal swimming space right on the edge of the ocean - and nearly a century later, it’s still doing exactly that.

Sheltered enough to feel accessible, wild enough to still feel connected to the sea.

We managed a few swims here during our time in Cornwall and it quickly became one of those places you understand the moment you get in. Huge cliffs behind you, the Atlantic breaking just beyond the wall, and that unmistakable feeling of swimming with the landscape rather than separately from it.

The pool is still free to use and is looked after by the Friends of Bude Sea Pool, who work to protect and maintain it for the community and future swimmers.

And after a few laps in the pool, we couldn’t resist heading for a little taste of the Atlantic too. 💦

We also took the opportunity to put some very colourful kit from Dippy.Store through its paces while we were there 🌈 - the pink tow float certainly isn’t difficult to spot in the water.

Places like this are exactly why we love open-water swimming.
A little history. A little adventure. And a very good reason to get in.

Birthday plans, but make them salty 🌊

For Lauren’s birthday today, we swapped the usual plans for a surf lesson - with Tallulah very happy to get involved too.

Such a brilliant couple of hours in the water. A few wipeouts, plenty of laughs, and two very happy surfers coming back up the beach.

Huge thanks to OA Surf Club for looking after them and making the whole thing so much fun 🤙

A nice reminder that wellness doesn’t always need four walls.

Sometimes it’s just learning something new, getting in the sea and sharing it with someone you love.

More days like this. 🌊

Thinking about trying open water?

You’re probably asking the same questions every swimmer asked before their first swim.

The first step isn’t getting in.

It’s packing the right kit, choosing the right location and taking a moment to prepare.

For most people, the biggest barrier isn’t the cold.

It’s simply not knowing where to start.

The easiest way to build confidence?

Learn from someone who’s been there before. A little guidance goes a long way.

Small habits make a big difference.

🟠 Wear a bright swim cap.
🛟 Use a tow float.
📍 Know your entry and exit points.
👥 Swim with others when you’re starting out.

Every open-water swimmer has a first swim.

Maybe yours is closer than you think. 🌊

Cold water asks for respect, not bravado.

Meet Nat, founder of Wild Wellness in Coniston, Lake District.

Through guided swims, contrast therapy, lakeside sauna sessions and community gatherings, Nat helps people build confidence in open water at their own pace.

Her approach is not about pushing harder or proving how much cold you can tolerate. It is about listening to your body, understanding the water and creating the confidence to keep coming back.

As Nat puts it:

“Confidence doesn’t arrive before you get into the water. It grows because you keep coming back.”

Wild Wellness is now live on SwimNest, with three experiences available to explore:

• Lakeside sauna sessions
• Contrast therapy and sauna
• Open-water swim coaching

We have also sat down with Nat for the first edition of SwimNest Stories, exploring confidence, community, safety and the rituals that help us reconnect.

Read the story and explore Wild Wellness via the link in our bio.

What’s your nesting ritual?

The small habit, place or practice that helps you slow down and reconnect.

It might be a swim before the day starts.
A sauna with friends.
Coffee outside.
A walk without your phone.
Ten minutes of quiet before everyone needs something from you.

As part of our new SwimNest Stories series, we’ve started asking the people behind our spaces and experiences one simple question:

What’s your nesting ritual?

Because wellbeing is not always about doing more.
Sometimes it’s about returning to the places, people and practices that help us feel grounded again.

Our first SwimNest Stories piece is coming soon — exploring confidence, community and the rituals that help us find our place in wild water.

But before then, we’d love to know:

What’s your nesting ritual?
