Welcome to In Sam’s Name a peer support group for men and women suffering from mental health concerns with meetings in Worksop, Retford, Ollerton, Whitwell and Kirkby in Ashfield.

We are proud to share that we will be laying four wreaths this year at Worksop, Retford, Ollerton, and Whitwell.

Each wreath is laid to show our deepest respects and dedications to veterans, those still serving, and the families affected by those who serve or have served.

We will remember them. 🌹

A gentle reminder this Halloween 🎃

Halloween can be a difficult or triggering time for some people, and that’s okay. It isn’t for everyone, and you don’t have to celebrate, dress up, go out or take part in anything that doesn’t feel right for you.

If Halloween isn’t your thing, please know that you’re not alone. Stay safe, look after yourself and spend the evening somewhere you feel comfortable and want to be. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for choosing to do what’s best for you.

And please, if you’re choosing a costume, be mindful of others. Avoid stereotypical and offensive costumes, particularly those that mock mental health conditions or portray people experiencing mental illness as something to be feared or laughed at. Dressing up as a “mental patient” is not clever, funny or harmless. It’s hurtful, stigmatising and very unkind.

Let’s remember that people are more important than costumes, and a little compassion can go a long way.

Whatever Halloween looks like for you this year, please be kind to yourself and to others. 🖤

Remembering Sam | 5 Years On

Five years ago today, we lost Sam in the worst possible way.

Not a single day goes by where Sam isn’t in our thoughts, but today, we pause to hold him even closer in our hearts.

Out of unimaginable heartbreak, In Sam’s Name was born—created to ensure that no other family has to walk through the devastating pain of losing a loved one in this way.

We exist entirely as his legacy.

Every peer-support session, every open conversation, and every life reached is a testament to Sam’s memory.

Today, our deepest love and thoughts are with all of Sam’s family and friends.

Most importantly, we hold his parents, Stewart and Gill, in our hearts. Serving as trustees on our committee, Stewart and Gill have selflessly turned their immense grief into a powerful force for good—helping others find hope, connection, and a safe place to speak.

We will never forget Sam. His name lives on, continuing to save lives and change outcomes every single day.

We remember you always, Sam. 💙

A massive, heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Maxine Ingram, Rebecca Leanne Simons, and Carol Keith, who have worked tirelessly to organise a World Mental Health Day event at the Whitwell Community Centre.
Your hard work, passion, and dedication made the whole day such a brilliant success! 👏✨
The event was held in memory of Dennis and in support of In Sam’s Name, and thanks to their incredible work, they raised a whopping £796! 🎉
A giant thank you as well to everyone who came along—whether you baked, donated, bought raffle tickets, or stopped by for a warm cup of tea and a friendly chat.
You all helped make a huge difference! 🫂💚
