Kenward Trust

Kenward Trust A charity founded in 1968, saving and transforming lives of people with alcohol and drug addiction

Kenward Trust is a registered charity with a Christian heritage and ethos that deals with drug and alcohol misuse, homelessness and offender resettlement. We run residential, community and youth programmes across Kent and East Sussex. Last year we provided structured treatments for 721 people and support and brief interventions to countless others. We have grown over the last 42 years to deliver n

ationally recognised, effective and successful drug and alcohol recovery programmes for adults. We offer a pathway of care from informal advice sessions to three years residential support, with proven intensive residential recovery through to supported housing rehabilitation programmes. In the community we offer people the support of an alcohol detox service, local alcohol information and advice clinics and a variety of workshops to help people address issues around alcohol and drug misuse. Historically we have worked with young people in schools, youth groups and ‘on the streets’, including young people who are at risk of school exclusion or have made a first criminal offence – now under threat from statutory funding cuts.

"I want to live. How can I?"

Those six words changed everything.

Before coming to Kenward Trust, Saul had lost his job, his health and his confidence. He describes feeling as though he was "living to use" and couldn't see a way forward.

But when he made the decision to ask for help, everything began to change.

Through therapy, peer support and the opportunity to focus on recovery, Saul has rebuilt his life. Today, he volunteers to help others affected by addiction, has genuine reasons to smile, and says he's found something he never thought possible, peace.

Recovery isn't just about stopping. It's about rediscovering who you are and creating a future worth living.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please remember: recovery is possible.

“I never thought rehab was possible for me.”

Saul believed support was out of reach - but getting the right help changed everything.

Now, he’s found a sense of peace he didn’t think was possible.

Too many people still face barriers to accessing treatment when they’re ready to ask for help.

We’re working to change that.

This week, we were proud to open our doors for the Kenward Trust Discovery Event.

We welcomed partners, healthcare professionals, supporters and members of our local community to learn more about the life-changing work taking place across Kenward Trust.

From presentations on specialist addiction treatment and EMDR therapy to powerful lived experience stories shared by our residents, the event highlighted the hope, resilience and transformation that recovery can bring.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our incredible staff and residents for making the event such a success. Together, we're raising awareness, challenging stigma, and showing that recovery is possible.

A powerful reminder that recovery is possible with the right support. 💙

Thank you to Saul, Joel and Jack for sharing your stories so openly. Your courage helps challenge stigma, raises awareness of the realities of ketamine addiction, and gives hope to others who may be struggling.

Residential rehabilitation changes lives, and we're proud to open our doors this September as part of the campaign. If you're a commissioner, healthcare professional or decision-maker, we encourage you to come and see the impact for yourself.

Together, we can help ensure that everyone has access to the treatment they need, when they need it.

Thank you to the BBC Kent for highlighting these powerful recovery stories. Saul, Joel and Jack's experiences show both the devastating impact of ketamine addiction and the life-changing difference that residential rehabilitation can make.

Everyone should have access to the right treatment at the right time. That's why we're proud to be part of the Open Houses campaign this September, inviting commissioners, professionals and decision-makers to see firsthand how residential rehabilitation transforms lives and why it should be available to everyone who needs it.

At Kenward Trust, we see first‑hand the difference that access to treatment can make.

When someone is ready to ask for help, having the right support in place can change their future.

We’re working to ensure no one is turned away because of cost.

"Residential treatment remains one of the least understood parts of our addiction treatment system..." – Penny Williams, Chief Executive of Kenward Trust.

Every day, residential rehabilitation helps people rebuild their lives, restore relationships and create brighter futures.

That's why we're proud to support the Open Houses 2026 campaign, inviting decision-makers to visit services and see the impact for themselves.

As Penny says: "Come and see for yourself."

“At first, it feels like everything will be fine but the problems build up before you realise the harm it’s causing.”

We’re hearing more stories like this from young people seeking support.

Recovery is possible - but only if people can access the help they need.
