Akai House Clinic was incorporated in 1999 as a private limited liability company providing ambulatory medical services especially emphasizing preventive health. The Clinic opened initially in Osu then opened a second office in Roman Ridge in 2001. In 2009 the Roman Ridge office moved to the new Cantonments facility. Dr. Adrian Oddoye, a general practitioner director with twenty seven years of experience, is currently the medical director. The Clinic has four GP’s and a team of specialists in various fields including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Orthopedics, HIV Care, Gynecology/Prenatal Care, E.N.T (Ear, Nose & Throat) , Oncology, Urology, Neurology, Gastroenterology and Clinical Psychology

The Clinic started in-house laboratory testing in 2008 by setting up a fully automated laboratory in the Osu office. The laboratory is capable of a vast range of investigations, including Hematology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Immunoassay. A recent addition to the laboratory is the completion of a Tuberculosis culture and sensitivity testing department This is the only private laboratory of its type in Ghana and it acts as a regional reference laboratory for many international immigration programmes. The laboratory is affiliated with Metropolis Laboratories in Cape Town, South Africa. Any uncommon or esoteric tests are routinely sent to them for processing. This means Akailab can perform virtually any laboratory test that a doctor can order. Bacteriology
For any suspected infection, your physician may order a culture. A culture is a bodily sample that’s processed and analysed to determine the types of bacteria involved and a suitable antibiotic therapy prescribed. Akailab uses the most up-to-date growth media to ensure quick and accurate results. Clinical Chemistry
Blood and body fluids are analysed for components such as glucose or cholesterol to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of your condition. Automated, state-of-the-art equipment is utilized, with extensive internal and external quality control to ensure the accuracy of results. Cytology
This includes evaluating pap smears or screening cells from body tissues/fluids for abnormalities. Haematology
This involves the evaluation of blood cells and the clotting ability of blood. Akailab uses automated haematology analyzers. Immunoassay

Akai Lab has Ghana’s only functioning private TB culture and sensitivity testing laboratory. CT scan
A CT (Computerized Tomography) scanner is a sophisticated machine that uses X-rays to acquire images of the body. Instead of sending out a single X-ray beam through your body, as with ordinary X-ray examinations, a fan-shaped beam of X-rays pass through a slice of your body onto a bank of detectors where their strength is measured. Beams that have passed through less dense tissue such as the lungs will be stronger, whereas beams that have passed through denser tissue such as bone will be weaker. The new VCT light speed 64-slice CT scanner we have at Akai House Clinic is the fastest available and gives 3D colour images with greater definition than has been available in the past. This CT scanner can therefore be used for cardiac studies including angiography, full body scanning (preventive screening) and virtual colonoscopy in addition to regular CT scanning
