Cosy Counselling & Reiki

Cosy Counselling & Reiki Therapy that’s as cosy as a cuppa. Servicing South Tipperary and beyond. Can't come in? I'll come to you or meet you online. It's so nice to meet you.

I'm Janine Meadley and I'm the founder of Cosy Counselling & Reiki. I've come to Tipperary, all the way from Australia. That's good news if you want a therapist who doesn't know any of your close family or friends! You can rest assured that any information you share with me will be utterly confidential (just like with all registered therapists) - with the added security of knowing that my network

in Ireland in small. After discovering the wonderful benefits of Usui Reiki in 2017, I'm excited to share what I've uncovered with others and help you find greater balance in your life. As a qualified counsellor, I bring the added benefit of being able to fully debrief with you on your life changes and experiences of reiki. I also offer counselling as a completely separate modality if energy healing isn't your thing, or you just need some time to talk things through. I can lend a compassionate ear and help you develop strategies for moving through your situation and life challenges. I apply a person-centred approach to my work, meaning you're in charge. I'll work around your goals and needs for therapy. This is your life, your time, your money - and you should be in charge of the outcomes. I can help guide you through the process of deciding what you want from therapy and where you want it to take you. I look forward to providing you with a cosy environment, away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Come have a cuppa and a chat, or lay down and let me take your mind off things for a while. Thank you for opening yourself to Cosy Counselling & Reiki.

Relationships are tricky. It can be hard to know who to trust. People who are less wary, just let everyone in! But they learn their lessons eventually. It's the right thing to open your heart and give people the benefit of the doubt. But just because your heart is open, it doesn't mean you can't still watch for the red flags. You can choose to change your opinion of someone, or handle a relationship differently based on the information you collect. It's not too late to set boundaries or put distance between you. Learning to have a soft heart and sharp mind staves off the disconnection, but keeps you safe. The alternative is a protective loneliness that only makes you more vulnerable to the wolves.

We use age and timing as excuses for why can't try something new, learn something new, be different from who we have been. What usually happening instead, is actually fear of the unknown. What if people won't like me anymore? What if they'll feel threatened or tease me? Who cares. The right people will support your growth. The wrong ones will fall away. Just because you might be coming to party a little late, it doesn't mean your not invited. If you've got a calling to step into something new - go do it! You might just surprise yourself.

We all hide sometimes. Trying to invisible. Or we pretend - that too. It's a safety mechanism built in to help us survive and fit in. It's great for safety, but it's not great for mental health. Saying something, standing up for something, being true to yourself, these are much safer for your inside world. We don't really need to fit in as much these days as we think we do. The danger of exclusion no longer results in certain death. Discomfort maybe - temporarily. But the more you are true to yourself, the more people will respect you - even if they disagree with you. Don't hide who you are - that is a recipe for dis-ease.

"For today only:
- do not anger
- do not worry
- be humble
- be honest in your work
- be compassionate to yourself and others."
~ Mikao Usui

Master Usui is the founder of Reiki - a Japanese system for wellbeing (including the energy healing everyone knows about). These are his simple precepts for a good life. Simple, but every day - a challenge to uphold. Pick one to work on for a week and see what it does for you.

People who love drama tend to make big events seem really important. Deaths, marriages, arguments, affairs. The truth is, most of these things are just a part of the cycle of life. People die, get married, argue, cheat - all the time. It can feel really big when you're in the middle of it all - like a storm. But the truth is, these events pass. Time forgets and heals. The things we really grieve or remember or care about are actually those everyday things. A hand on our back at the supermarket, a nickname, a smile, freshly baked cookies, a sunset. The gentle things have power too. They have the power to create a life. They have the power to connect us with one another through time and space. Don't underestimate them.

Sometimes we do fall to pieces. Despite all our efforts. We try to hold it all together but a day comes when we can't anymore. Then we do things we're ashamed of and make mistakes we don't feel like we can fix. It happens. It happens to everyone. No, we don't like it. But life always gives us the opportunity to start over - to pick ourselves up and try again. Forgiveness and grace allow us to step forward and keep going even when it feels impossible. I'm sorry if you're crumbling, but there will come a time when you feel put back together.

How often have we said to ourselves: 'I thought I'd have done XYZ by now'? Too often. We create timelines for our futures based on social information we collect from films, the people around us and silent (or not so silent expectations). But who really cares about those? A river doesn't rush to the sea. It gets there when it gets there. A flower doesn't worry about blooming a bit later than the rest. If and when it's time, it will happen. You will come into your own in your time.

There's something so refreshing about a person is truly and unashamedly themselves. So what if you stand out and behave or look a little bit different? All you're really doing is making people wish they could be just like you. You're teaching everyone around how to see the world differently. You're exposing them to a new way of being. Your weirdness is a blessing and a gift!

Flaunt your weirdness. It makes everyone else feel a little bit more at home. Enough said.

When people begin their healing journeys, either through therapy or personal development, they start to develop boundaries and a sense of identity. This makes them feel strong and powerful. Being in charge of your own life for the first time can be intoxicating, and no-one wants to go back to the way things were - being walked all over. What sometimes happens in these situations, however, is that they start to become inflexible. New boundaries become barbed-wire fences. New ways of being become ingrained. New patterns - inflexible. When faced with these times of well-earned strength, remember that nature and human nature require flexibility. Be willing to bend a little - strength is not always brittle.
