I’m truly grateful for the space created by The Dublin Storyslam and the opportunity I got to stand on the stage in the Abbey Threatre and share my story of being gripped by non-trigger panic attacks. 8 minutes isn’t a long time to share some of that story, and isn’t that the challenge - to know what to share this time 🙏 many thanks to Julien, Sarah, Sarah and Colm (and all the other behind the scenes people) for their continued support and dedication to offering such an amazing space for people to come share their stories 🫶🏻
Thanks also to my own Phoenix-Tara Toastmasters Club where I have been learning how to share stories in a safe and structured way 🫶🏻
What I’ve realised over this past year is the therapeutic nature of this process.
We need to share our stories, it’s part of the moving on piece 🙏
We also need to break those silences, to let others know they are not alone in what they are going through, and to keep creating safe, supportive and fun places where we can learn how to speak our truth while supporting others who are doing the same.
This isn’t about therapy groups, but more about how learning to speak can be a therapeutic experience 💪
