Exam season can place enormous pressure on young people.

For many teenagers, the Junior or Leaving Cert can bring anxiety, panic, sleep difficulties, emotional overwhelm, fear of failure, shutdown, irritability and loss of confidence.

Parents often feel helpless watching their teenager struggle under the pressure.

At The Misneach Centre, we have a number of experienced therapists who work specifically with adolescents and teenagers.

Healing begins in spaces where people feel safe, heard, and supported. 🤍

At The Misneach Centre, we are committed to creating compassionate, confidential spaces for healing and connection. As part of this commitment, we hold a free support group for adult survivors of childhood s*xual abuse. The next group meeting is Friday 29th.

These support group sessions offer a gentle and welcoming environment where survivors can come together in care, understanding and shared presence.

Today was the first of a two-day conference by NOTA UK on Childhood Sexual Abuse. While the topic is difficult, the overall feeling throughout the day was one of hope, education, collaboration & prevention.

Some key takeaways from today:

• The importance of parents having age-appropriate conversations with children from an early age about s*x, consent and what s*xual abuse is.

• The huge implications of children being given access to technology from such a young age, particularly through platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and gaming platforms, where children can be groomed, manipulated, threatened and coerced into sending s*xual images and videos.

• Discussions around children being lured away & exploited online & within communities, often linked to unmonitored access to technology, po*******hy & violent online content. While vulnerable & disadvantaged children can be at increased risk, these concerns are impacting children & families across all backgrounds.

• The devastating impact of sibling s*xual abuse & the increasing need for supports for parents trying to navigate the trauma & fallout for both children involved.

• Important discussions around policy change & the efforts being made to stop counselling notes, medical records & school reports being used to discredit victims in court proceedings in ways that would never be accepted in many other assault cases.

The speakers, workshops & networking opportunities were informative, compassionate & deeply thought-provoking. Most importantly, there was a genuine sense of people across the globe working together to better understand, prevent & respond to CSA with greater accountability, education & care.

A difficult but incredibly important space to be part of. Looking forward to day two tomorrow.
