Speech by Kyabgon Gyalway Gyaltsab Drung Goshri Gyaltsab Rinpoche on the auspicious occasion of the 42nd birthday of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje at Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim, India.
བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས། འདི་ཕྱི་ཚེ་རབས་གཏན་གྱི་༸སྐྱབས་གཅིག་༸རྒྱལ་དབང་ཀརྨ་པ་བཅུ་བདུན་པ་ཆེན་པོ་ཨོ་རྒྱན་འགྲོ་འདུལ་ཕྲིན་ལས་དབང་གི་རྡོ་རྗེ་མཆོག་དགུང་ལོ་ ༤༢ བཞེས་པའི་འཁྲུངས་སྐར་ལ། སྒོ་གསུམ་གུས་ཕྱག་སྔོན་དུ་འགྲོ་བའི་སྒོ་ནས་མཚམས་འདྲི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས་ཞུ་རྒྱུ་དང་། སྐུ་མགྲོན་གཙོ་བོ་སྤྱི་ཁྱབ་བློན་ཆེན་༸མི་རྗེ་པེ་རེམ་སིང་རྟ་མང་མཆོག་དབུས་པའི་སྐུ་མགྲོན་རྣམ་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ལ་བྱོན་པ་ལེགས་སོ་ཞུ།
Tashi Delek. On this auspicious occasion of the 42nd birthday of our sole refuge for this and future lives, the great 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Wangi Dorje, I offer greetings of Tashi Delek and warmest birthday wishes with respect of my body, speech, and mind and my warm welcome to the chief guest Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri. P. S. Tamang, all the distinguished guests and everyone gathered here today.
༸རྒྱལ་དབང་ཀརྨ་པ་ནི། བདག་ཅག་གི་སྟོན་པ་སངས་རྒྱས་དང་ཨོ་རྒྱན་མ་ཧཱ་གུ་རུས་ལུང་ཟིན་བོད་ཀྱི་བླ་ཆེན། བསྟན་འགྲོའི་༸སྐྱབས་མགོན་གཞོན་ནུ་འགྲན་ཟླ་བྲལ་བ་ཞིག་རེད་ལ། གདན་ས་རུམ་བཏེག་འདི་ཡང། ཐོག་མར་ཕྱི་ལོ་ ༡༩༥༩ ལོར། འབྲས་ལྗོངས་ཆོས་རྒྱལ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་མཆོག་གིས། མི་ལོ་བརྒྱ་ཕྲག་མང་པོའི་གོང་གི་ཀརྨ་པ་དང་འབྲས་ལྗོངས་མཆོད་ཡོན་གྱི་འབྲེལ་པ་ལ་དགོངས་ནས། ༸རྒྱལ་མཆོག་ཀརྨ་པ་བཅུ་དྲུག་པ་སྟོན་འཁོར་ཐམས་ཅད། སྦག་ས་ནས་ཐད་ཀར་འབྲས་ལྗོངས་ལ་གདན་དྲངས་ནས། གདན་ས་བཞེང་སའི་ས་ཆ་ལ་སོགས་པ་ཕུལ། བར་དུ་རིགས་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་བདག་༸རྒྱལ་མཆོག་བཅུ་དྲུག་པ་ཆེན་པོས་ཀྱང་གདན་ས་རུམ་བཏེག་དགོན་པ་གསར་དུ་བཞེངས་ནས་བཤད་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི་སྡེ་བཙུགས། མཐར་སྐུ་ཚེ་ཆ་ཚང་རུམ་བཏེག་ལ་བཞུགས་ནས། འཛམ་བུའི་གླིང་ལ་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྤེལ་བར་མཛད་ས། ལོ་རྒྱུས་གསེར་གྱི་ཡི་གེ་འགོད་པར་འོས་པའི་གདན་ས་བྱིན་རླབས་ཅན་ཞིག་རེད།
His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa is a supreme being prophesied by the Buddha and Guru Rinpoche. He is an incomparable protector of the teachings and beings in this age of degeneration. This seat of Rumtek monastery was established by His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa after he and his entourage was invited by the Chogyal of Sikkim His Majesty Sir Tashi Namgyal in 1959, directly from Buxa to Sikkim due to the centuries old connection between the Karmapa and the Chogyal of Sikkim as patron and Lama. The king offered him the land to establish a monastic seat and honored him as his root Guru.
Having established Rumtek Monastery, it became the principal seat of the entire Kagyu tradition. His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa resided here throughout his life and it was from this monastery that the teachings of Buddha flourished throughout the world like the rays of the sun. Rumtek Monastery remains a place of profound spiritual significance and blessings.
ཕྱི་ལོ་ ༢༠༠༠ ལོར་༸རྒྱལ་དབང་བཅུ་བདུན་པ་ཆེན་པོ་མཆོག་བོད་ནས་རྒྱ་གར་རང་དབང་ལུང་པར་སྐྱབས་བཅོལ་དུ་ཕེབས་རྗེས་དབང་ལུང་གསན་བཞེས་དང་། བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་སྨོན་ལམ་ལ་སོགས་པའི་མཛད་ཕྲིན་འགྲན་ཟླ་བྲལ་བ་བྱུང་ཡོད་ན་ཡང་། བར་ཆད་དབང་གིས། ད་བར་གདན་ས་རུམ་བཏེག་ལ་ངོ་ཕེབས་མ་གྲུབ་པ་དེ་ལ། འཛམ་གླིང་གི་འབྲེལ་ཡོད་བླ་སློབ་ཐམས་ཅད་སེམས་ཕམ་ཆེན་པོ་བྱུང་ཡོད། ཡིན་ན་ཡང་། ད་ཆ་ང་ཚོ་བླ་སློབ་ཚང་མའི་རེ་སྨོན་འགྲུབ་པའི་ཆེད་དུ། རྒྱ་གར་དབུས་གཞུང་གི་འབྲེལ་ཡོད་མཛད་གཙོ་རྣམ་པ་དང་། སྤྱི་ཁྱབ་བློན་ཆེན་༸མི་རྗེ་པེ་རེམ་སིང་རྟ་མང་མཆོག་གི་དབུས་པའི། དགོན་གནས་བློན་པོ་སྐུ་ཞབས་བསོད་ནམས་བླ་མ་ལ་སོགས་པས། ཐུགས་ཁུར་རྒྱབ་སྐྱོར་ཆེན་པོ་གནང་གི་འདུག་པ་དེ་ལ། ངས་དེ་རིང་ང་ཚོ་བླ་སློབ་ཚང་མའི་ཚབ་ཞུས་ནས། རྒྱ་གར་དབུས་གཞུང་དང་སྤྱི་ཁྱབ་བློན་ཆེན་པེ་རེམ་སིང་རྟ་མང་མཆོག་དབུས་པའི། འབྲེལ་ཡོད་ཐམས་ཅད་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེ་ཞེས་ཞུ་ཡག་ཡིན། །
In the year 2000, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje escaped Tibet and arrived to the free land of India as a refugee. As a result, his wishes of receiving teachings and empowerments have been fulfilled and his activities such as organising the International Kagyu Monlam amongst many others have been unparalleled. Yet due to various obstacles, the Karmapa has been unable to return to his rightful seat at Rumtek
-something which deeply saddens His Holiness himself and all of his followers throughout the world.
However, it is said that the aspirations and activities of Buddhas will always manifest at the right time. And perhaps as the result of constant prayers of his followers — "May the Karmapa come to Rumtek monastery!" the current relevant authorities of the Government of India, especially the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri. Prem Singh Tamang, and the Hon'ble Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs, Ven. Sonam Lama, have been taking great responsibility and showing support for this cause.
Today, on behalf of His Holiness himself and all his followers, I express our heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang and to all those concerned.
མཐའ་དོན། ༸རྒྱལ་དབང་མཆོག་སྐུ་ཚེ་༸ཞབས་པད་བསྐལ་བརྒྱར་བརྟན་ནས། མཛད་ཕྲིན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཐུགས་བཞེད་བཞིན་འགྲུབ་པ་སྤྱི་དང་། དམིགས་བསལ་གདན་ས་རུམ་བཏེག་ལ་ངོ་ཕེབས་གྲུབ་པའི། བསྐལ་ཟང་དུས་བཟང་གི་ཉི་མ་མྱུར་དུ་འཆར་བའི་ཆེད་དུ། ང་རང་ཚོ་ཚང་མས་རྟེན་འབྲེལ་ཡག་པོ་སྒྲིག་ནས། བླ་མ་ཆོས་སྐྱོང་ལ་གསོལ་འདེབས་དང་བདེན་བརྡར་ཡག་པོ་གནང་རོགས་ཞུ་རྒྱུ་ཡིན། བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས། །
In conclusion, I request all of you to establish auspicious connections (Tendel) and offer sincere prayers to the Three Jewels and Dharma Protectors, so that His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa may live for eons, all his wishes for the activities for the teachings and beings may be fulfilled, and especially, may the auspicious sun of the day when the Karmapa returns to his rightful seat at Rumtek may swiftly arise.
