Do you keep spraining your ankle every few months?
A repeated ankle twist isn't just bad luckβit could be a sign of an ankle ligament injury, especially involving the ATFL (Anterior Talofibular Ligament) or CFL (Calcaneofibular Ligament).
πΉ ATFL (Anterior Talofibular Ligament):
The most commonly injured ligament in an ankle sprain. It connects the talus to the fibula and helps prevent the ankle from rolling inward.
πΉ CFL (Calcaneofibular Ligament):
Located just below the ATFL, it connects the fibula to the heel bone (calcaneus) and provides stability during walking, running, and side-to-side movements.
Most first-time ankle sprains recover with:
β
Rest
β
Bandage or plaster
β
Physiotherapy
However, if your ankle keeps giving way or you've had 3 or more sprains, it may indicate chronic ankle instability. In such cases, arthroscopic ligament repair or reconstruction can restore stability, reduce the risk of future injuries, and help prevent long-term joint damage.
Don't ignore recurring ankle sprains. Early diagnosis and the right treatment can protect your ankle and help you return to an active, pain-free life.
