On 6th September 2026, history was made in Maldivian orthopaedics.
Dr. Hussain Shakeel became the first surgeon to perform robotic-assisted surgery in the Maldives, successfully completing two total knee replacement (TKR) procedures at ADK Hospital.
The procedures were performed using the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, operated by Dr. Shakeel.
This milestone builds on ADK’s orthopaedic legacy: the Maldives’ first total knee replacement was performed here on 16th January 2002. Now, with the country’s first robotic-assisted surgery, ADK marks another national first — bringing advanced treatment closer to home.
