🍎 Fruit or juice? They are not the same.
When we eat whole fruit, we get the complete package: natural sugars, fiber, water, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The fiber slows the absorption of sugar, helping blood sugar rise more gradually while keeping us fuller for longer.
When fruit is turned into juice, most of the fiber is removed. This means the natural sugars are absorbed much more quickly, causing blood sugar to rise faster, much like other sugary drinks.
There are times when juice has an important place, such as treating low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), or when you want to have a sugary drink, rather choose 100% juice than a soda drink. But for everyday health, choosing whole fruit is usually the better option.
Small choices, made consistently, can have a big impact on your health. 🍏💚
