Diabetes type 2 individuals should look beyond just controlling blood sugar.
They should work towards improving pancreatic function and restoring insulin sensitivity.
The pancreas is an organ/gland in the belly behind the stomach that performs two important functions:
- It produces and releases powerful digestive enzymes into the small intestine that help to break down fats, protein and carbohydrates.
- It releases hormones like insulin and glucagon directly into the blood stream to control and balance blood sugar levels.
When people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes- two things are often involved, there is some loss of pancreatic function, the pancreas is not producing and releasing insulin as it should.
Also, there is insulin resistance- the cells in the muscle, liver and other parts of the body are rejecting insulin- not allowing it to do it's work properly.
Blood sugar rise is a symptom- not the root cause.
Focus on the root cause.
