Yesterday, we shared his journey to safety. Today, we share the part of his story that is much harder to tell.

He lost two brothers to the flood. His nephew remains missing, and there is still uncertainty about other family members. Amid this personal grief, his thoughts remain with Haku, a community he says is still waiting for adequate relief, rescue support, safe shelter, and even basic ways to stay connected.

His words carry an added weight because this is not the first time Haku has faced such hardship. During the 2015 earthquake, Rasuwa was among the hardest-hit districts, and he recalls similar struggles in getting relief to the community. Today, that painful feeling of being left behind has returned.

Behind every disaster figure is a family waiting, grieving, hoping, and asking to be seen.

When the devastating flood struck Rasuwa, there was little time to understand what was happening, only time to run. A former team member of Karuna Foundation Nepal, he shares his journey of escaping the flood, waiting for rescue, and eventually making his way from Dhunche to Trishuli and Kathmandu.

While he reached safety, many are still missing, and families continue to wait for their loved ones. We stand with every family affected and hope for the safe return of those still missing.

Rasuwa is no stranger to disaster. The district was also among the hardest hit during the devastating 2015 earthquake. Once again, its communities are facing immense loss and uncertainty.

This is only part of his story. More of his experience and reflections on the disaster and its aftermath will follow tomorrow.

🔹In times of loss and uncertainty, standing together matters more than ever!

As communities across Nepal continue to face the devastating impacts of the recent flash floods, Karuna Nepal stands in solidarity with the affected families and with those working tirelessly on the frontlines.

Today, we handed over 1,008 pairs of gumboots to the Armed Police Force (APF) to support their ongoing rescue, relief, and response efforts in difficult and hazardous conditions.

We have also contributed NPR 1,000,000 (Rs. 10 lakh) to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to support the broader national response and recovery efforts.

The contribution to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund was formally handed over to Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Mr. Govinda Bahadur Karki, by Karuna Nepal’s Chairperson, Dr. Vibhaas Basukala, and General Secretary, Dr. Uttam Sharma.

Behind every rescue is a person stepping into danger to help someone else, and behind every affected family is a story of loss, courage, and hope. This contribution is a small expression of our shared responsibility and compassion during this difficult time.

Our thoughts remain with all those who have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods, and a sense of security. We extend our deepest appreciation to the security personnel, local responders, volunteers, communities, and everyone working day and night to reach those in need.

May our collective efforts bring relief, strength, and hope to the communities affected by this disaster.

Karuna Foundation Nepal recently concluded its two-day Annual Review Meeting for FY 2082/83, bringing teams together to reflect on progress, challenges, innovations, and key lessons across our programs and organizational priorities.

We dove deep into the impact of our Disability Prevention & Rehabilitation program, Cervical Cancer Screening & Prevention initiatives, Autism programs, our Knowledge & Evidence Lab, and Scale-up efforts. Teams shared wins and failures. We learned from challenges. We innovated together.

But the real turning point came when our Board Chairperson, Dr. Vibhaas Basukala, and General Secretary, Dr. Uttam Sharma, challenged us with a message that cut through everything: Stop celebrating yesterday's wins. Ask yourself-how do we do it better? Dr. Sharma's insightful presentation wasn't about resting on achievements. It was about relentless improvement, bigger thinking, and scaling differently. It was about asking ourselves: what's next? How do we go further?

We were honored to have Ms. Durga Bhandari Baral, Assistant Secretary/ Chief of the Social Development Division of the Ministry of Social Development, Koshi Province, whose participation strengthened our shared commitment to disability inclusion and prevention through meaningful collaboration and commitment for sustainability.

We also bid a heartfelt farewell to our former Director, Mr. Yogendra Giri, whose visionary leadership shaped who we are today. His legacy lives on in every life we touch.

As we leave this gathering, we carry one truth: Evidence + Experience + Relentless Improvement = Sustainable Change
