Meke day today at Te Hurihanga Kaupapa O Uruuruwhenua Hauora 🌀

Something about creating a safe space for cultural transmission.. Te whare pora - The house of weaving 🌿 being a bridge from past to present really fills my cup riiight up 🌊 And the wāhine on this kaupapa keep reminding me that it does for them too 🫶🏾

I get to witness in real time mauri change from disbelief into belief.. from te pō, to te aō marama 🌎 .. cellular memory blocks disapear and the aincient raranga rhythm comes back to life. I get to help our people reclaim and remember together the gifts from our ancestors 🎁

We breathe, we remember, we create, make mistakes grow and flow together - He waka eke noa.. proof that were all in this together 🫶🏾 Everyones always proud & supportive of each other too, its such a fulfilling space to be apart of!

Traditionally a rourou is a flax basket used to gather and carry food.
In a modern sense, it represents what each person brings.. their skills, knowledge, lived experience, and perspective.
The whakataukī reminds us that thriving isn’t individual.
It comes from contribution & kotahitanga.
When we bring our different baskets together,
we create something stronger than we could alone.
That was the foundation of Aokimi's 1st wānanga at REAP, Lovely day spent sharing & Weaving our matauranga together.
