MMPO Provider of practice management and claiming services to Lead Maternity Carer - LMC - midwives. These activities are achieved by providing the following:
1.

The MMPO was established by the New Zealand College of Midwives in 1997 to provide its Lead Maternity Carer midwives with a supportive practice management and quality assurance infrastructure and a business framework enabling high quality continuity of care for women throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand. Our Main Functions

We support the sustainability of midwifery practices and maternity services
th

roughout New Zealand by providing a responsive practice management
support service and a midwifery focused electronic practice management
system that enables midwives to meet their service, financial and professional
commitments. We also undertake a variety of projects for the profession, health service
providers, the Ministry of Health, research organisations and communities
that utilize the rich collection of data we manage around the provision of
maternity services in New Zealand by midwives. A standardized, peer reviewed set of maternity notes and series of
individualized reporting templates.

2. Access to and ongoing support for an electronic maternity record and
practice management system incorporating the NZCOM data set and a suite
of reports.

3. A reliable maternity service claiming and payment systems for Lead Maternity
Carer midwives and associated maternity service providers.

4. Support for the role of NZCOM to develop and service the profession by:
• providing aggregated clinical information on midwifery activities and outcomes for benchmarking, research and service monitoring,
• undertaking projects that inform the development of midwifery services,
• collecting relevant maternity outcome data to ensure midwives can review their work against the standards of the profession and help women choosing midwifery led maternity care achieve high quality outcomes.

5. Information for consumers, the profession, LMC midwives and providers of maternity services to enable and support midwives to provide quality, woman focused care.

THRIVE IN LMC PRACTICE - Business Workshops

Being an LMC midwife today asks far more than providing exceptional midwifery care.

You are also managing a business, navigating claiming and cashflow, planning for time off and backup, responding to increasing digital demands, and trying to build sustainable ways of working — often while carrying significant workload and on-call pressure.

To support this reality, MMPO is pleased to bring back our free LMC focussed business workshops:
Thrive in LMC Practice - supporting sustainable LMC midwifery

These practical, non-clinical workshops have been designed specifically for community LMC midwives and LMC group practices who want to strengthen systems, build better business confidence, and more sustainable practice models.

Workshop topics include:
• Individual LMC business health (Understanding practice costs, tax, ACC, GST, KiwiSaver, Xero vs Hnry, and future financial planning)
• Claims, cashflow & confidence (Section 94 basics, claiming rhythms, corrections, cashflow confidence and reducing financial stress)
• Group practice, backup & reciprocity (Shared expectations, fair reciprocity, backup systems, handover processes and acknowledging invisible workload)
• Risk, digital safety & time off planning (Tiaki Scribe and AI safety, privacy risk, insurance, continuity planning, locums and sustainable time off planning)

These sessions are designed to be interactive, practical, relevant and immediately useful — whether you are a new graduate LMC, an experienced midwife, or part of a wider group practice.

Workshops are being held across Aotearoa and are free to all College midwife members.
Please click on the link below for workshop locations, dates and registration information.

We would love to see you there as we work together to strengthen sustainable LMC midwifery practice across Aotearoa.
