You have been asking me to bring this back for aggeessss, so here it is 🀰🀰🀰

The Pregnancy Class is a 5 week course of education and exercise, and in my opinion is what all pregnant women need in their lives!

Each class starts with a mini education session on topics such as the pelvic floor, minimizing birth injury and how to recover well. It then flows into an exercise session of strength, pilates and mobility. Every session concludes with a guided relaxation, perfect to relax the pelvic floor in prep for birth.

It doesn't matter if it's your first or fourth pregnancy and all exercise can be modified to suit all needs.

Anyone who has heard me talk will know I am very passionate about bowel health......and it appears that this passion has filtered down into my kid's birthday cake πŸ’©πŸ€£

I hope they grow up being proud of my work (and grateful for their regular bowel motions) rather than mentally scarred, praying for a mum more on trend 🀣🀣🀣

It is a common symptom to rush to the toilet and leak on the way. People often lump this type of leakage into the same category as leaking with a cough when in fact the cause and treatment can be quite different.

When we start breaking down the cause of urge incontinence we are looking a lot more around bladder habits, sensation to urinate, connections between the brain and the bladder as well as the pelvic floor muscles themselves.

It is also possible to have both urge incontinence and stress incontinence which is again why we need to look at the whole picture and not just do kegels!

Leaking with cough, sneeze etc is what most people think of when it comes to leakage. We refer to this type of leakage as stress urinary incontinence.

It occurs in approximately 1 in 3 women and certainly is more common after we have babies or as we age. But it also can happen earlier in life, especially in athletic women.

There are many different causes including hormonal changes, a pelvic floor not working as it should (weak or tight) and increased vaginal wall movement/prolapse. There is also a genetic component and some women are more susceptible than others.

Because the cause can be for many different reasons, the treatment will look different for everyone. We know pelvic floor muscle training is really effective but only if the cause of the leakage is related to the pelvic floor function.

That's why understanding the reason WHY you are leaking is so important. That's where pelvic health physios come in to help you understand the why and plan the treatment that works best for you.

Leaking urine is probably one of the more common topics people are aware of when it comes to pelvic health. And I am sure most of my followers have found me here as they have some experience with the old sneeze pee......πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

However the more research that comes out on this topic, the more we learn that leakage is far, far more complicated than just do pelvic floor exercises.

There are different types of leakage, different causes and certainly different treatments. There is absolutely no one size fits all.

So I am going to do a series of posts to explore this in a bit more detail.....
