This June, I am bringing you a series of posts based on this concept of things that we often consider normal when they shouldn't be. Or things we are unsure if they are normal or not. And most importantly things that aren't part of normal conversation but really should be.

A perfect example of this is stress urinary incontinence (like leaning urine with a sneeze or jump).

It's NOT NORMAL to do this.

But 1 in 3 women do have issues with leaking.

Women still think it's just a normal part of aging or having babies, despite the fact it's very treatable.

Women still find it a weird, embarrassing or taboo thing to talk about (less than 5% of women tell people based on the sports research).

My aim is not to normalize the problem but normalize talking about it!

The goal was twofold......see where the body is at and have a bloody fantastic weekend (nailed that second goal πŸ·πŸ‘Œ)

Going into it, I wasn't quite sure who was going to be on that start line, the athlete of years gone by or the almost 40, totally knackered, pelvic floor at her knees mum of 3. Thankfully it was closer to the former than the later πŸ™Œ

Some reflections:

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ My body felt good, kudos to the boring strength training I have put in over the past few years. If you're not on the strength train, get on it now.

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ I usually have to πŸ’© mid run when taking on gels, but a tactical pre race immodieum was a huge success (disclaimer, not medical advice lol).

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ The marathon is a game of patience which I am yet to master. As always I went off too hard and the next gear I was hoping to have for the last 10k never came.

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Mental toughness is a massive part of endurance racing. I am sooooo much tougher in this era of life, thanks kids for just about but not quite breaking me 😜 My music died with 15k to go. A few years ago this would have totally derailed me, but in my head I was like "no stress, this run is still much easier than parenting" πŸ˜‚

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈThe AMRC crew were welling up 😒 as I crossed the line. I was proud of my race but even more proud for this wonderful community we have in ATK.

All around the world women are hitting PBs in their post kid era. So dare I say it, but the sub 3 marathon dream is very much alive and well. Let's see what the next few years bring πŸ‘€

This weekend Arataki Mums Run Club headed to for our inaugural "AMRC On Tour"......and oh it was a goodie!

Everyone did AMAZING and plenty of goals were well and truly smashed. And a very good day out for me in the marathon 😁

We have all come home with sore knees (and heads 😜) but very full cups.

Feeling very proud of this incredible little community we are creating 🀍

This is a very common question I get, and these are your options......

🩸 I am happy to do a vaginal exam on someone when they are on their period as long as they feel happy to. It generally doesn't impact the assessment. It's not weird for me if it's not weird for you ☺️

🩸 We can continue the appointment without the vaginal exam and save that for another day, there are always so many other things to talk about and assess.

🩸 If you don't feel comfortable to do it and the vaginal exam is an important part of the assessment, we can postpone the session.

Because there are often lots of questions before attending for the first time, I have made a whole section on the website with FAQs to hopefully make the process feel a bit easier 🀍

There is a lot of talk this Mother's Day about self care.

For us self care doesn't look like candles and massage.

It looks like getting up at 5am to run in the dark, in the cold and usually in the rain!

But when you are with good people, this is the best kind of self care 🀍
