🤩 What a show! 🤩 Residents, staff and family of Summerset at Karaka stepped into the spotlight for their very first Recycled Wearable Arts Fashion Show - and what a fabulous debut it was.

From clever creations to wonderfully imaginative outfits, every entry showed just how much talent, creativity, and fun lives in the village. The event was such a hit that residents are already looking forward to bringing the runway back again next year!

📖 Welcome back to Wellington Library! 📖 Kenepuru residents enjoyed an outing to the freshly refurbed and earthquake strengthened Wellington Library with Activities Coordinator, Trish.

Everyone had a fabulous time seeing the various works by local artists and enjoyed a tour of the basement where the books get automatically sorted into their own categories, with Library staff member and guide, Kim.

The building was closed to the public at short notice on 19 March 2019, after Wellington City Council was advised by engineers that the building had structural vulnerabilities which meant it might not perform well in the event of a significant earthquake. Redesign and restructuring works were completed by September 2025, and the building was re-opened to the public in March 2026.

💜 Summerset down the Lane residents recently had the privilege of experiencing Losing It, a powerful 45-minute play performed by resident Sandra Shearer and her friend Ceridwyn. The play follows the journey of a dementia diagnosis, told with authenticity, compassion, music, drama, unexpected humour, and a surprise ending.

The performance was deeply moving and beautifully delivered, taking residents on an emotional journey filled with laughter, tears, and heartfelt connection. As resident Terry shared, “To tackle such a sensitive issue with humour intertwined was truly brilliant. The acting was superb.”

🫶 A heartfelt thank you to Sandra and Ceridwyn for sharing such a powerful and memorable experience with the Hamilton residents. 💜

🪶🦜Summerset at Karaka residents enjoyed a special visit to Kereru Korner Bird Sanctuary and Café in Pukekawa, where they were warmly welcomed by owner John Webster.

John treated everyone to a lovely morning tea before taking them on a guided tour of his impressive aviaries. Residents had the chance to meet some of the sanctuary’s feathered residents, with around 50 parrots calling Kereru Korner home, alongside other rescued animals.

As a rescue centre for exotic birds, Kereru Korner offered a truly memorable experience - full of colour, conversation, and close-up encounters with some beautiful birds. A wonderful day out for all involved. 🦜
