R2TMC Surgery Residents Represent PSGS Central Luzon in National Traumalympics Finals for Second Consecutive Year

Surgical residents from Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC) once again represented the Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS) Central Luzon Chapter in the National Traumalympics Finals, marking the second consecutive year that the institution has earned a place on the national stage.

The PSGS Traumalympics challenges surgical residents on their knowledge, clinical judgment, and decision-making in trauma assessment, resuscitation, and management, with top-performing teams advancing to represent their respective PSGS chapters at the national level.

R2TMC earned the right to represent the Central Luzon Chapter after besting other surgical training institutions in the region with the highest combined score across two qualifying rounds. The two-round format tested both individual knowledge and the team's ability to think, communicate, and make decisions together.

The National Traumalympics Final Round was held on August 8, 2026, at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel during the 24th Annual PSGS Surgical Forum, bringing together 15 surgical training institutions from across the country.

Representing R2TMC were Dr. Mark Anthony T. Cando, third-year surgical resident; Dr. Zyra B. Bugtong, second-year surgical resident; and Dr. Frederico B. Sabban, first-year surgical resident. The team was assisted by their coach, Dr. Hope Namnama Bayogan, a fourth-year surgical resident, under the guidance of their adviser, Dr. Venus Lorraine B. Datud, Trauma Surgeon.

As an institution at the forefront of trauma care in the region, R2TMC continues to strengthen the training of future surgeons while advancing its capacity to provide timely, evidence-based, and high-quality trauma care to the communities it serves.

Para kay Margie Bucasas, isang miyembro ng Indigenous Peoples (IP) community, ang desisyon na pabakunahan ang kanyang anak ay isang simpleng hakbang tungo sa mas ligtas na kinabukasan ng kanyang pamilya.

Sa pamamagitan ng Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA), mas nailalapit ang proteksyon laban sa measles at rubella sa mga komunidad, kabilang ang mga pamilyang IP. Para kay Margie, ang pagbabakuna ay hindi lamang tungkol sa pagtanggap ng bakuna, kundi sa pagpiling protektahan ang anak at hikayatin ang kapwa pamilya sa komunidad na gawin din ito.
