DANAO POLICE SWIFTLY ACT ON ONLINE SCHOOL THREATS

The Danao City Police Station swiftly acted on reported online school threats in the city, resulting in the identification of a 14-year-old Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL) who was subsequently turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for appropriate intervention.

The incident was brought to police attention after threatening messages were sent through the social media account of an educational institution on August 5, 2026. The messages threatened students and warned of a possible attack inside a school, while also mentioning other educational institutions in the area.

Following the formal report on August 9 and in the early hours of August 10, personnel of the Danao City Police Station immediately conducted verification and investigation. Through social media exploitation, validation of information, and coordination with barangay officials, investigators were able to establish leads that resulted in the identification and location of the individual behind the account.

The minor was brought to the Women and Children Protection Desk for further inquiry, accompanied by his guardian and a relative. During the inquiry, he admitted making the posts and reportedly said he did so as a “trip lang.” He also disclosed experiencing frustrations related to school, family concerns, and bullying.

Cebu Police Provincial Office Provincial Director PCOL ABUBAKAR UDANG MANGELEN JR. commended the prompt action of the Danao City police and stressed that school threats must always be taken seriously. “We commend our personnel in Danao for their immediate response and diligent investigation. Threats against schools, regardless of whether they are made as a joke or prank, can create fear and place our students and school personnel at risk. We will continue to act swiftly on every report while ensuring that minors are handled with the appropriate protection and intervention under the law,” PCOL Mangelen said.

Following the inquiry, the CICL was turned over to the CSWDO-Danao for appropriate assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, police personnel continue to coordinate with concerned school authorities and local officials while maintaining heightened police visibility and security monitoring in the affected areas.

The Cebu PPO reminds the public to report suspicious or threatening online activities immediately. Responsible use of social media is likewise encouraged, as online threats can have serious consequences and require appropriate police action.
