Secretary Health Briefing on Directorate General Health Services

Mr. Fayaz Ali Shah, Secretary Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, attended a comprehensive briefing at the Health Secretariat on the Directorate General Health Services (DGHS), its directorates, and ongoing public health programmes.

The briefing covered the organizational structure, core functions, programme performance, ongoing initiatives, operational priorities, and key challenges facing the Directorate. Discussions focused on strengthening coordination, improving service delivery, enhancing programme implementation, and ensuring effective utilization of resources across the health sector.

The Secretary underscored the importance of evidence-based planning, accountability, and interdepartmental coordination to improve healthcare services and achieve better health outcomes for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Secretary Health Briefing on Medical Teaching Institutions

Mr. Fayaz Ali Shah, Secretary Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, attended a briefing on matters relating to the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTIs) at the Secretariat. The session focused on reviewing key administrative, policy, and governance issues concerning the MTIs, discussing ongoing challenges, and exploring measures to strengthen coordination and improve the overall healthcare system in the province.

During the meeting, the Secretary emphasized effective policy oversight, enhanced coordination among stakeholders, and the implementation of reforms aimed at improving the quality, efficiency, and accountability of healthcare services across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mr. Fayaz Ali Shah, Secretary Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chaired a virtual review session with all District Health Officers (DHOs) and Medical Superintendents of flood-prone districts to assess the Health Department’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.

The meeting focused on ensuring adequate stocks of essential medicines, functional medical equipment, emergency response readiness, availability of antivenom and anti-rabies vaccines, dengue preparedness, disease surveillance, and timely case reporting. The Secretary stressed the importance of conducting early emergency drills, activating mobile health teams, strengthening emergency departments, implementing strict duty rosters for all health professionals, and nominating focal persons at district and provincial levels.

He further directed the establishment of district and provincial call centres, emphasizing that daily reporting and real-time data availability are critical for an effective response to heavy rains and potential flood-related emergencies.

The Secretary also instructed the Additional Director General Health Services to monitor preparedness on a daily basis and submit regular updates to his office, ensuring continuous oversight and a swift, coordinated response to any emerging public health challenges.
