Mr. Fayaz Ali Shah, Secretary Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chaired a virtual review session with all District Health Officers (DHOs) and Medical Superintendents of flood-prone districts to assess the Health Department’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.
The meeting focused on ensuring adequate stocks of essential medicines, functional medical equipment, emergency response readiness, availability of antivenom and anti-rabies vaccines, dengue preparedness, disease surveillance, and timely case reporting. The Secretary stressed the importance of conducting early emergency drills, activating mobile health teams, strengthening emergency departments, implementing strict duty rosters for all health professionals, and nominating focal persons at district and provincial levels.
He further directed the establishment of district and provincial call centres, emphasizing that daily reporting and real-time data availability are critical for an effective response to heavy rains and potential flood-related emergencies.
The Secretary also instructed the Additional Director General Health Services to monitor preparedness on a daily basis and submit regular updates to his office, ensuring continuous oversight and a swift, coordinated response to any emerging public health challenges.
