The ERAS® Centers Meeting at the ERAS® World Congress 2026 in Singapore was one of those sessions that stays with you.

Two hospitals received their ERAS® Qualified Center certificates, both firsts for their countries: Gleneagles Hospital Johor in Malaysia and Mayapada Hospital Surabaya in Indonesia. 🎉

The rest of the session was spent exactly as it should be: implementation teams from around the world sharing what they have learned, what has been hard, and what has made the difference.

Different countries, different settings, same commitment to getting perioperative care right.

If you are running an ERAS® program, or thinking about starting one, this is the community you want to be part of. The people in that room are solving the same problems you are.

We hope to see more of you there next time in the next ERAS® World Congress.

A new paper from the ERAS® Society founders, published in World Journal of Surgery, highlights something important: most hospitals that say they “do ERAS®” are not delivering its full benefits.

The reason is not intent. It is measurement. Without continuous audit, teams cannot know how consistently ERAS® is being followed, patient by patient.

The ERAS® Interactive Audit System (EIAS) was designed specifically to close that gap.

This is an important step for perioperative care in the region and reflects a strong commitment to improving recovery for patients undergoing surgery.

Led by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, with support from the ERAS® Center of Excellence team at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore, the hospital is now also expanding ERAS® into other specialties such as gynecology and colorectal surgery.

Three days into the 12th ERAS® World Congress in Singapore, one pattern is clear: the demand for structured and audited ERAS® implementation is global — and the level of engagement across Asia is striking.

Surgical teams from across the region are stopping by booth B02 with very concrete questions: how to audit ERAS® consistently, how to sustain compliance, and how to connect it to the outcomes hospital leadership is measured on.

That is a meaningful shift — and exactly the gap EIAS and the ERAS® Implementation Program are built to close.

This week, our team is in Singapore for the ERAS® World Congress.

Earlier this week, we spent the morning with clinical teams from three hospitals for a hands-on ERAS® Interactive Audit System (EIAS) workshop. Around 20 nurses, coordinators, and clinical leads — all doing the daily work of measuring and improving perioperative care.

The energy in the room was exactly why we do this.

Today is International Nurses Day. And we want to be clear: 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐒® 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤.

Behind every compliant protocol, every audit data point, every recovered patient, there is a nurse who showed up, adapted, and led.

That is the hospital cost reduction associated with each 1 percentage-point increase in ERAS® compliance for open stoma closure and open colon resection, according to a new study from the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital

Across 90 elective colorectal cases performed under ERAS® in 2021, the relationship was statistically significant for both procedure types (p=0.0213 and p=0.0134).

Compliance was measured using the ERAS® Interactive Audit System (EIAS). Cost data came from the hospital billing system. Mean compliance across the cohort was 68.21%, close to the 70% benchmark in ERAS® compliance studies.

For minimally invasive procedures, the authors did not find the same pattern. Equipment costs dominate the cost profile in small MIS subgroups, and they flag this for further research rather than drawing a conclusion.

What makes the paper notable is the setting. A government hospital where care is publicly funded. A country where out-of-pocket spending makes up 44.7% of healthcare expenditure.

The economics of ERAS® have been documented before, mostly in high-income systems. This study adds evidence from a setting where resource allocation is under real pressure, and where better implementation has direct consequences for both hospitals and patients.
