🀝 Congratulations to Minister Ng Chee Meng on His Appointment in the Prime Minister's Office

The Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) extends our heartfelt congratulations to NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng on his appointment as Minister in the Prime Minister's Office.

Over the years, Minister Ng has been a strong supporter of IHRP and key advocate for Singapore's tripartite partnership. We appreciate the opportunities to work alongside him in advancing initiatives that strengthen the HR profession, drive workforce transformation, and build a more resilient and future-ready workforce.

A defining milestone was the inaugural Future of Tripartism: Collaborating for Collective Growth event, where Minister Ng graced the occasion as Guest-of-Honour and witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between IHRP, NTUC and e2i.

We look forward to building on our partnership to further strengthen HR capabilities, champion progressive workplace practices, and contribute to a workforce that is equipped to seize the opportunities of the future.

Learning never stops, especially when it comes to protecting what matters and planning for the future.

Last Friday, our team came together for a Learning Session that combined two important topics: strengthening our understanding of data protection through a refresher on PDPA responsibilities led by our Data Protection Officers (DPOs) Jocelyn Chua and Sally Lee, and gaining practical financial wellness insights during a Lunch & Learn with APEX Private Wealth Management.

From making the most of CPF to understanding investment fundamentals, the session provided colleagues with practical knowledge to support both their professional responsibilities and personal financial well-being.

πŸ’› A big thank you to our DPOs and the team from APEX Private Wealth Management for sharing their expertise, and to everyone who joined us for an engaging afternoon of learning and conversation.

🀝 With Gratitude: Dr Tan See Leng's Contribution to Singapore's HR Profession

As Singapore enters a new chapter in its manpower leadership, IHRP would like to express our appreciation to Dr Tan See Leng for his dedicated service as Minister for Manpower and for his support of Singapore's HR profession.

We were honoured to welcome Dr Tan as Guest of Honour at our People Behind People Forum in both 2023 and 2025, where he witnessed our growing community of certified HR professionals expand from approximately 7,000 to nearly 10,000 members. On both occasions, he reaffirmed the important role that HR professionals play in developing Singapore's greatest asset β€” our people.

At People Behind People 2023, Dr Tan launched the Job Redesign Centre of Excellence, a joint initiative by IHRP and Workforce Singapore now known as Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), to help organisations redesign jobs and build a more agile, competitive workforce.

Two years later, at People Behind People 2025, he introduced the Singapore Opportunity Index, a pioneering national employer listing that empowers jobseekers to identify progressive employers whose values align with their career aspirations.

We are grateful for Dr Tan's leadership, partnership and belief in the HR profession. His support has helped strengthen the HR community and advance people practices that enable businesses and workers in Singapore to thrive.

As we thank Dr Tan for his many contributions, we also warmly welcome Acting Minister for Manpower Ms Jasmin Lau and Minister of State for Manpower Mr Foo Cexiang. We look forward to working closely together to continue advancing HR excellence and building a resilient, future-ready workforce for Singapore.

When Soma Roy first aspired to build a career in HR, the path was anything but straightforward. Without formal HR qualifications or experience, many of her early applications were unsuccessful.

Rather than giving up, Soma focused on building her capabilities. She pursued further education, gained business experience across administration, operations and management, and continually invested in developing HR knowledge. Her persistence eventually led him to her first HR Manager role, before progressing to Regional HR Manager and, today, Founder and Principal HR Consultant of Resource Impactz.

For Soma, the IHRP Certification became a natural extension and testament of that commitment to continuous learning. She began with the IHRP Certified Associate (IHRP-CA) to establish a strong foundation, progressed to the IHRP Certified Professional (IHRP-CP), and most recently attained the IHRP Senior Professional (IHRP-SP).

"Each certification level challenged me in different ways. As I progressed, the assessments required me to apply my HR knowledge, exercise sound judgement and think more strategically through real-world scenarios. The journey strengthened not only my technical expertise but also my confidence in delivering strategic HR solutions."

Looking back, Soma sees every rejection as a lesson and every certification milestone as an opportunity for growth. Her advice to fellow HR professionals is simple: "Learning should never stop. IHRP Certification not only validates your capabilities but also helps you identify areas to grow, stay relevant, and become a more effective HR professional."

In conjunction with International Self-Care Day (celebrated on 24 July), we organised our Annual Health Screening, making it convenient for colleagues to take a proactive step towards better health. To make the morning even more enjoyable, everyone was treated to a light breakfast and had the opportunity to unwind with a stretch therapist, helping to knead away stiff necks and tired muscles from the demands of everyday work.

These simple yet meaningful initiatives reflect our commitment to fostering a workplace where employee wellbeing, engagement and care go hand in hand. When people feel supported, they are better equipped to thrive, collaborate and bring their best selves to work.

Here's to making self-care a part of everyday work life. πŸ’™

At HR Learning Fest 2026 on 17 July, Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) was proud to partner with Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to bring together HR professionals, business leaders, educators and policymakers to explore how we can collectively build a workforce that is ready not just for change, but for continuous transformation.

🀝 Strengthening tomorrow's HR profession
A key milestone was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between IHRP and the five Polytechnics and ITE (POLITE), and witnessed by Guest of Honour Mr Shawn Wei Zhong Huang, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Manpower.

This partnership marks another important step towards strengthening Singapore's HR talent pipeline by aligning education with industry needs, co-developing stackable credentials, and creating clearer pathways from learning to professional recognition.

πŸ’‘ Rethinking the role of HR
In her keynote, Karina Kuok, Head of Assessment & Insights at IHRP, challenged us to look beyond technology and ask a more fundamental question: What exactly are we preparing people for?

As work continues to evolve, organisations cannot simply prepare people for today's roles; they must prepare them for continuous transition. HR therefore has an increasingly strategic role to play in redesigning work, developing future-ready capabilities, and ensuring technology is implemented with human judgement, trust and purpose at its core.

πŸ“Š From insight to action
The event also marked the launch of The Capability Advantage: Redesign to Reskill for Competitive Edge, a Jobs-Skills Insights report jointly developed by IHRP and SP.

🌟 Celebrating tomorrow's talent
Rounding off the day was IHRP Recognition Day: NextGen, a forward-looking edition of IHRP Recognition Day. Curated for newly certified students, it brought together the wider HR community to celebrate our emerging HR talent β€” a fitting close to a day centred on building the workforce of tomorrow.

🌟 People Behind People 2026: Get Your Super Early Bird Passes Now!

AI is no longer just an IT initiative. It is reshaping business strategy, organisational design, workforce capability and leadership. And that means conversations about AI can no longer happen in silos.

The organisations best positioned for the future are those where business leaders and HR leaders work together to answer critical questions:
β€’ Which work should be automated?
β€’ Which human capabilities will become more valuable?
β€’ How do we redesign jobs rather than simply digitise them?
β€’ How do we build trust while accelerating innovation?

At People Behind People 2026, business and HR leaders will come together to explore how organisations can navigate this transformation with confidence and purpose.

➑️ Register early to enjoy Super Early Bird rates available for a limited time, and join the conversation shaping the future of work: https://forms.office.com/r/FSyXRUbmuG
