Colorado City, Texas- Ascension Mendoza, 90, passed away June 1, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ascension Mendoza, who departed this world peacefully on June 1, 2026, surrounded by love at a nursing home. Born on June 30, 1935, in San Marcos, Texas, Ascension lived a vibrant life that touched the hearts of many, leaving behind an enduring legacy of love, laughter, and community spirit.
Ascension Mendoza was the cherished son of Epifanío Mendoza and Inez Rodriguez, who instilled in him the values of hard work and generosity. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, brothers Modesto, Fidel, Pablo, Simon, Francisco, and sisters Dolores and Petra, who he now joins in eternal peace.
In his early years, Ascension found employment as a cotton ginner at Producers Coop Gin in Colorado City, Texas. It was here that he honed his work ethic and developed a deep connection with the community—a bond that would last a lifetime. With a dream and determination, Ascension Mendoza opened a family restaurant with his wife, which he successfully ran for over 30 years. The restaurant became a beloved gathering place, known not just for its delicious food but also for the warmth and laughter that filled its walls.
Ascension Mendoza was a man of many passions. He enjoyed making BBQ for family and friends, his laughter echoing through gatherings, and his eyes twinkling with joy at the sight of big wins at the casino. Those who knew him well will remember his stubborn streak, which was outweighed only by his sense of humor and his open-hearted willingness to lend a helping hand. Ascension had a knack for making everyone feel welcome, always ready to share a plate of food and a good story.
His loving wife, Magdalena, with whom he shared over 50 beautiful years, survives him. Together, they built a family and a life filled with love. He is also survived by his children, Cesar Mendoza, David Mendoza, and Melba Mendoza, all residing in Dallas, Texas. His legacy lives on through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and friends who became family over the years.
In honor of the family's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association at alz.org in his memory.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their kind words, prayers, and support during this difficult time. A special thank you goes to the people of Colorado City for their longstanding kindness, whether it was offering a ride, a kind word, or simply listening. Your generosity and compassion will forever be remembered.
Ascension Mendoza's life was a testament to the power of community, love, and laughter. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love he so freely gave.
