⚠️ Heatwave conditions are set to return, and it’s important to keep our loved ones with dementia well hydrated.

Dehydration is a common challenge for people living with dementia, even in milder weather, so it’s important to take extra caution when temperature soar.

If you have a loved one living with dementia, take note of these ways to support them in the heat:

Leave beakers or jugs of water in easy reach. This is especially important for people with limited mobility, who aren’t able to get up and make themselves a drink.

Make drinking easier. Try a brightly coloured cup or straw to draw attention. Make sure the beaker is within line of sight, and not too heavy or an odd shape.

Share a drink together. Have a cup of tea or a soft drink with the person, and make sure they're drinking during mealtimes.

Leave prompts and reminders. Try leaving notes out for your loved one or putting up notices around the house. You could also set up a phone reminder or set an alarm clock.

Offer high-water content foods. Supplement water and other drinks with foods that are high in fluids. Some good options include soup, cucumber and fruit like melon.

Try offering something that feels like a treat. Ice lollies and ice cream are cooling and have a high water content, while Jelly Drops are 95% water and designed to help you stay hydrated.

📢 Please share so we can keep everyone living with dementia safe and hydrated in the heat.

We often talk about exercise and nutrition, but what about awe?

Research suggests that moments of wonder, whether it's enjoying nature, listening to beautiful music, or admiring art, can reduce stress, improve mood, and strengthen emotional well-being.

It's a fascinating reminder that healthy aging isn't only about physical health.

Exceptional care isn't always found in grand gestures.

Sometimes it's remembering how someone takes their coffee.

Knowing which chair they always choose.

Recognizing when they simply need someone to sit beside them.

The smallest details often leave the biggest impression.

A favorite family recipe.

A familiar smell from the kitchen.

Stories shared while preparing a meal.

The moments we remember most are often the ones built around simple traditions. We believe those moments should continue at every stage of life.

Choosing an assisted living community isn't just about today.

It's about every tomorrow that follows.

The morning greetings.

The familiar faces.

The conversations at lunch.

The reassurance that someone notices when something feels different.

When families make this decision, they're really choosing the experiences that will shape everyday life.
