Bennett arrived at MedVet Phoenix with some serious warning signs: dry-heaving, a swollen and painful abdomen, and foreign material in his stool.
Radiographs confirmed gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), a life-threatening condition where the stomach fills with gas and twists, along with foreign material in his stomach. Our Emergency and Critical Care teams quickly stabilized Bennett before taking him into surgery.
During surgery, our team discovered that Bennett’s stomach had not only twisted but also ruptured. His Surgery and Anesthesia teams worked together to address the complications and keep him as stable as possible.
Bennett spent six days in our ICU receiving around-the-clock care. Thankfully, he recovered well and was doing great at his 2-week follow-up! Now that he fully recovered, he looks forward to swimming and being a happy, playful pup. 🐶
